Atleti try to turn defence into attack following a loose pass from Carvajal. Griezmann and Jimenez exchange possession in the centre circle, before an overhit pass from the Mexican substitute results in the ball rolling out of play.
90' +1
We're into the first of three minutes of stoppage time. Real Madrid are really pushing for a winner now.
90'
Real Madrid's players surround the referee, with Bale leading the protests! Bale cuts inside, firing a left-footed effort at goal, but an extended hand from Mario Suarez makes the block! It was unintentional, but definitely handball!
88'
Raúl García has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Koke.
GOOOOOOAL! RAUL GARCIA EQUALISES! Real Madrid fail to deal with a near post corner delivery, allowing it to bounce. Raul Garcia reacts first, flicking the loose ball home instinctively from close range! Atleti have a goal at last!
87'
Pepe is picked out at the back post, after Kroos passed his corner delivery out to Marcelo who was lurking on the edge of the area. The Portuguese defender gets firm contact, but can only direct the ball way wide of the upright!
85'
Godin is forced into a good defensive header deep in his own penalty box, as Atleti remain with their backs slightly to the wall. Bale tries to bring down a lofted pass and drive straight into the area, but Moya pounces upon the loose ball following a poor first touch from the Wales international.
83'
Miranda makes a run towards the back post, but can't quite turn home due to the slightest of flick-ons taking it away from him! Atleti threaten to get back on level terms immediately!
82'
The home side lead with less than ten minutes remaining and it's their marquee summer signing who has grabbed it! From the restart, Atleti push upfield, with the Koke unleashing a good strike from range. Casillas takes no chances, pushing the ball over for a corner.
81'
J. Rodríguez has scored a goal for Real Madrid! Assist by K. Benzema.
GOOOOOAL! JAMES BUNDLES HOME! With ten minutes to go, Real Madrid are searching for the game's opening goal, with the introduction of Di Maria presumably helping to provide the drive required to make things happen. A cross is only half-blocked by Miranda and half-cleared by Juanfran, allowing for the Colombian to squeeze home a close-range finish!
78'
R. Jiménez enters the game and replaces M. Mandžukić.
Á. Di María enters the game and replaces L. Modrić.
Benzema rises brilliantly to flick on a cross from deep, but the Frenchman's header loops onto the roof of the net. Modric is withdrawn by Ancelotti, with Di Maria's introduction met by cheers from the crowd. Meanwhile Mandzukic is replaced by Mexican striker Raul Jimenez.
Minute
Description
76'
Angel Di Maria readies himself to come on, despite plenty being made of the Argentina international being an unused substitute in Real Madrid's last match. Kroos tries his luck again from the edge of the box, but his strike is deflected and bobbles through to Moya. The former Bayern man has been everywhere.
75'
Kroos lines up another strike from 30 yards, but clatters his latest attempt into Gabi. Real Madrid are starting to panic a little, as they known that failing to score at home isn't a good enough result, regardless of opposition or circumstance.
73'
Ansaldi looks Mandzukic after a good run down the left, but his cross is way overhit and finds Koke on the far side instead. The former Real Sociedad man tries to square the ball immediately back into the box, but fluffs his lines.
71'
Carvajal manages to get the better of Ansaldi and deliver from the right, but his cross is hacked away by the covering Mario Suarez. James then cuts in from the right, but his curling left-footed effort sails wide of the target. Real Madrid are turning the screw a little now.
69'
Big miss for Kroos! The free-kick is clattered through the wall by Bale, forcing Moya to hurriedly parry, with Kroos unable to turn home the rebound! The goal was at his mercy, but the Germany international slices high and wide!
68'
Raúl García gets yellow.
Sergio Ramos is the man to take the free-kick, with the defender curling an effort narrowly over the crossbar! It's pulled back by the referee, however, with the referee deciding that the wall stepped forward somewhat. Real Madrid have a second attempt.
67'
Another foul is conceded by Atleti, with Gabi responsible for a kick on James as the substitute attempted an acrobatic effort from the edge of the box. This is in a great position.
65'
Atleti whip in a corner delivery to the back post, which Godin gets off the ground brilliantly to meet - but is adjudged to have bulldozed Pepe over in the process. The Atleti defender protests his innocence, but this match has become very fractured.
64'
C. Ansaldi enters the game and replaces Guilherme Siqueira.
63'
Siqueira fells Bale once again, with both Real Madrid players and fans alike asking what the left-back has to do in order to receive his second booking. Sergio Ramos heads wide from the edge of the penalty area after arriving into the box late.
61'
Sergio Ramos might have been a little bit lucky to get away with only a yellow card there, as there was definite movement towards the face of Mandzukic from the los Blancos defender. With half an hour left on the clock, this is getting a little bit feisty again.
60'
M. Mandžukić gets yellow.
Sergio Ramos gets yellow.
59'
Mandzukic goes down holding his head after appearing to clash with Ramos as the two players tried to get up following an aerial duel. The Spain international appeared to push the base of his hand into the former Bayern striker's face deliberately - earning both a yellow card, somehow.
58'
Mario Suárez gets yellow.
James crosses towards the near post, but Moya is able to claim with ease. The home fans jeer wildly, due to Mario Suarez cynically scything down Kroos after the ball had gone. It was a nasty tackle, which earns the Atleti midfielder a yellow card once the advantage petered out.
57'
A. Griezmann enters the game and replaces Saúl.
56'
Kroos manages to earn himself half a yard of space to dig out a shot on the edge of the penalty area, but Miranda puts in a block. Carvajal then delivers a cross from high on the right-hand side, but Benzema can't rise to convert with a back post header! Griezmann readies himself on the Atleti bench.
54'
Real Madrid are dispelling some nerves with a composed spell of possession, which involves all of Ancelotti's midfield three, before a pass is set back to Carvajal. The right-back shoots from the best part of 30 yards, but can't keep it down, with Moya happy to watch the effort rise over the crossbar.
52'
Set pieces are flowing in the second half, with Real Madrid now taking a corner short, before Marcelo crosses. Juanfran heads clear at the near post, as both defences continue to stand firm. The atmosphere has gone a little bit flat in the Bernabeu.
50'
Another goalmouth scramble results from an Atleti corner, with Alonso this time putting in an important defensive header to surrender another set piece. It's worked short, before being cushioned back into the penalty area, but Casillas beats Mandzukic to the ball.
49'
Gabi whips in a teasing cross towards the front post, which Casillas races out to claim. Pepe, perhaps not hearing his goalkeeper, decides to head the delivery behind to be on the safe side. The captain takes the set piece, but Pepe is on hand again to nod the danger away.
47'
One change at the break, with Cristiano being replaced by summer signing James Rodriguez - a switch that the home crowd don't take too well. It could be a precautionary change, given the Portugal international's recent knee problems. Bale breaks into the penalty area immediately, but the Welshman's fairly tame effort is saved by Moya.
46'
J. Rodríguez enters the game and replaces Cristiano Ronaldo.
We are back underway at the Bernabeu! It remains goalless, but with two quality sides on show, we're likely to see a few more chances before the 90 minutes are up. Just to act as a reminder, tonight is just the Super Cup first leg, with Real Madrid having to travel to the Vicente Calderon in a few days time.
45'
There is only one minute of stoppage time.
44'
Koke is fouled once again, with Carvajal this time the offender - though the Atleti midfielder goes down very dramatically indeed. The away side are managing to break up play and stop the game from flowing, leading to some frustration for los Blancos.
42'
Bale delivers a good cross to the back post from the left-hand side, which Cristiano rises well to meet! The Portugal international makes contact with his head, but can only nod wide of the upright.
41'
Only a few minutes remain until the interval, with tempers rising slightly. A few yellow cards have been shown, with Real Madrid's players berating the referee for giving a throw-in the wrong way - before eventually being corrected by his linesman.
39'
Xabi Alonso gets yellow.
Alonso earns himself a yellow card for a rash challenge on Koke, as the experienced midfielder was just caught out by his international teammate's intelligent first touch. The Spaniard is apologetic, but the referee already had his hand in his back pocket by that point.
37'
All of Atleti's eleven are back onto the field in time to defend yet another Real Madrid corner, but Modric's delivery is headed away by the first man. Atleti's gameplan is working, as they are keeping it compact and tight in the centre of the park, leading to Miranda and Godin not having a great deal to do.
35'
Ten minutes remain until the break, with Godin going down heavily after denying Marcelo with a sliding challenge. Siqueira also takes a knock, but both players will be fine to continue - leading to plenty of whistles from the Bernabeu crowd.
33'
Another back post cross is swung in by Atleti, but Carvajal puts in an important boot to half-clear. The away side whip in a second ball, but Casillas is quick off his line to pat down and collect the delivery. Real Madrid look to incisively break once again, but their counter is halted on the edge of the penalty area by Godin.
31'
Siqueira does well to break down the left, but Ramos is able to clear the Brazilian's cross with a diving header. Atleti win the corner, but Marcelo gets up well to head clear and sparks a break for the hosts. Juanfran scampers across to slide in and ensure that Bale's run stops at the half-way line.
30'
Carvajal whips in an excellent cross from the right-hand side, which Moya briefly hesitates about coming to claim. The goalkeeper smothers it moments later, however, with Benzema and Cristiano hoping to steal in at the back post.
29'
Another stray pass from Ramos is nearly cut out by Koke, but the midfielder can't quite get enough contact on the ball to prevent Modric from stealing it away from his second touch. Real Madrid have looked composed on the whole, but have made the odd sloppy error.
27'
Koke tries to get away from Carvajal with a clever turn, but Alonso is on hand to cover across and help out his full-back. Mandzukic complains to the referee after he is penalised for an adjudged push on Pepe - as the Croatian forward clearly feels as though he'd put in a firm but fair aerial challenge.
25'
Modric catches Gabi, with the Croatian midfielder appearing to tread on the foot of Atleti captain. As we edge towards the half hour mark, Real Madrid are looking more dangerous, with Cristiano and Bale bound to get some space to exploit if los Colchoneros switch off momentarily or begin to tire after the interval.
23'
Saul shoots ambitiously from 30 yards, but his effort thuds harmlessly into the advertising hoardings. His teammates look frustrated, but the youngster can't be faulted for his self-belief! Bale is beginning to have some joy against Siqueira, who has already been booked.
22'
Bale picks up possession on the half-way line and turns Siqueira excellently, before driving into the space in behind. His first cross is blocked, but the Welshman collects the rebound and looks for Cristiano with his second delivery. It's slightly too low, however, allowing for Juanfran to step in front and head away.
21'
Mandzukic nearly manages to get in behind Ramos, but the Spain international recovers excellently to clear into touch. Simeone remains at the edge of his technical area, urging his player to continue their work rate and make life difficult for the hosts.
19'
Real Madrid continue to dominate possession, earning a corner on the right-hand side. Modric whips it in, but Atleti clear at the near post. Los Blancos are certainly the more dominant force in terms of territory, but thus far they've only been afforded the space that Simeone wants them to have.
17'
Atleti are already working incredibly hard to press and close space, with Mandzukic showing shades of the work rate and desire which made him a key player for Croatia at the last European Championships. Two chances in quick succession, however, show that Simeone's men are a danger on the break.
15'
Saul manages to get in behind Sergio Ramos, with the youngster going on a driving diagonal run out to the right-hand side. The former Rayo loanee musters up a right-footed effort, but Casillas is able to get down to his left smartly to smother.
14'
Casillas is given his first save to make, comfortable patting down a long-range strike from Mandzukic from 20 yards! The home crowd get behind their goalkeeper, who is most likely going to play second fiddle to Keylor Navas this season in La Liga.
13'
Bale is the latest Real Madrid player to suffer at the hands of Atleti's overzealous challenges, with Siqueira following through and taking out the Welshman at almost knee-height! The referee races over to give the Brazilian, while Bale receives extensive treatment. On-field, Cristiano goes down looking for a penalty from Juanfran, but gets nothing.
12'
Guilherme Siqueira gets yellow.
11'
Bale drags a shot wide! Cristiano and Benzema combine well, with the Frenchman flicking a clever back-heel inside to the Welshman. Taking his first touch onto his left foot, the former Spurs forward lines up an tame effort, but gets his angles all wrong! Moya will be a relieved man.
10'
Now it's Marcelo's turn to take a tumble, with Simeone's mentality clearly showing itself through his side's performance thus far. Both goalkeepers are yet to be tested, with Atleti's staunch defending starving the game of chances.
8'
Gabi is now warned for a physical challenge on Kroos, with Atleti unafraid to get tight to their men early on. Real Madrid aren't getting any luck out width, with neither Cristiano nor Bale being gifted enough space to deliver a cross.
7'
Simeone is being very cautious with his line-up, surrendering plenty of territory and ensuring that only Raul Garcia is left in the hole between midfield and attack to guarantee support for Mandzukic. Ancelotti's team have plenty of early pressure, but are yet to test Moya.
5'
Koke gets yellow.
Koke receives the first yellow card of the game for a late challenge on Pepe, though the Portuguese central defender might have made a bit of a meal of it. There was definite contact from the young Spanish midfielder and now he has to carefully tread the disciplinary tightrope.
4'
Atletico show their intent from the start, dropping deep in two banks of four and leaving Raul Garcia and Mandzukic up front to aim for. Simeone will be asking a lot from his midfield to do their defensive work, but also work hard to support the two isolated strikers whenever they are found with long passes.
2'
Siqueira gets a confidence-boosting first touch, covering across well to dispossess Carvajal and remove the danger. Real Madrid see the majority of the early possession, as would be expected in their home fortress of a stadium.
1'
We are underway in the first half at the Bernabeu! Real Madrid are dressed in their famous white strip, while Atletico are in their red and white stripes. This is the first leg, before the two head to the Estadio Vicente Calderon for the return fixture in a few days time - leaving Ancelotti's men needing a result tonight to stand them in good stead. After a touching tribute to Alfredo di Stefano, the first whistle is blown.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Real Madrid versus Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup! The two sides are meeting at the Bernabeu, with plenty of their star names on show. Diego Simeone's outfit surprised everyone by winning the league last year, but los Colchoneros will have to be at their best this evening to defeat a much reinforced los Blancos squad!
I'm Simon Harrison and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Spain's capital, as the two local giants battle it out for the first domestic trophy of the native football season. This is also a repeat of last campaign's Champions League final, which saw Carlo Ancelotti's side snatch La Decima in extra-time. There wasn't much to separate the two sides in Lisbon, but plenty of transfer business has occurred in the last few months!
TEAM NEWS: Iker Casillas is preferred in goal to Keylor Navas, with Ancelotti seeming to stick to the tradition of playing the Spaniard in cup competitions. Xabi Alonso slots into the centre of midfield alongside Luka Modric, allowing for Toni Kroos to have a bit more liberty to push on. Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo provide the width and hopefully the service for Karim Benzema.
TEAM NEWS: Moya is given the nod over Jan Oblak in goal for Atleti, with Guilherme Siquiera the man to replace the outgoing Filipe Luis at left-back. Mario Suarez sits alongside Gabi in central midfield, with Koke deployed on the left and 19-year-old Saul on the opposite flank. Summer signing Mario Mandzukic and Raul Garcia are the physical presences to aim for up top.
Real Madrid starting line-up: Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Alonso, Kroos; Cristiano, Benzema, Bale.
Atletico substitutes: Griezmann, Ansaldi, C. Rodriguez, Giminez, Oblak, Jimenez, Tiago.
Real Madrid substitutes: Varane, Coentrao, J. Rodriguez, Navas, Arbeloa, Di Maria, Isco.
Plenty of summer signings make up the benches for either side, with Colombian star James Rodriguez and Costa Rican's man of the World Cup Keylor Navas taking their respective seats. Angel di Maria continues to be included in the matchday squad despite transfer speculation, with Isco also looking to struggle for first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu.
Antoine Griezmann will be asked to make an impact from the bench for Atleti, with Argentine left-back Cristian Ansaldi also among the subs. Jan Oblak and latest newboy Raul Jimenez join the aforementioned two, though the Slovenian goalkeeper isn't likely to get his competitive debut this evening - unless something unforeseeable happens to Moya.
There is only a quarter of an hour remaining until kick-off, so be sure to stick around to see all of the entertaining action from this local derby in the Spanish Super Cup. Both coaches will be keen to get their hands on some early silverware, though Simeone may be more focused on his new personnel gelling together with an encouraging performance.
The two teams are about to take to the field, in what is a packed Bernabeu. Regardless of whether this trophy is regarded as a competitive piece of silverware doesn't seem to matter - both sets of players and fans alike want victory against their rivals. Atletico are something of an unknown quantity this season, given that Simeone has been forced to sell some of his stars and then face the arduous task of replacing them adequately.
HALF TIME! It's goalless at the break at the Bernabeu, with both sides having a couple of good half-chances to open the scoring. Tempers are rising, with Carlo Ancelotti unhappy with the referee, you certainly wouldn't guess that this is merely the Super Cup!
Saul and Mandzukic have mustered up long-range efforts on the break for Atleti, while Cristiano and Bale have gone closest for los Blancos. Simeone's men have remained well-organised and stayed compact to frustrate the hosts, but given a couple of bookings, the Argentine coach may well be forced into some imminent changes.
Be sure to rejoin us in five minutes time for all of the second half action, with Real Madrid certainly targetting in this home first leg tonight. They've seen more of the ball and spent plenty of time in the opposition half, but los Colchoneros are standing firm, as was the case last season.
FULL TIME! It ends 1-1 between Real Madrid and Atletico at the Bernabeu, with whistles ringing around the Bernabeu. James opened the scoring for his new club, but an 88th minute equaliser from Raul Garcia ensures that los Colchoneros get a favourable result from the away leg of the Super Cup.
Kroos and Carvajal were excellent for los Blancos, as Real Madrid were frustrated by a well-organised and committed Diego Simeone side. Despite Ancelotti's men pushing forward in the late stages, with Di Maria making a difference, the win just wasn't forthcoming.
That's all we have time for from the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup, with Atletico taking a favourable 1-1 draw home with them to the Estadio Vicente Calderon - which will host the return leg in a few days time. I've been Simon Harrison and I hope to see you again next time.
