Aduriz is fouled by Bartra, but the resulting free kick can only be flicked into Ter Stegen's arms. Moments later San Jose and Suarez clash with boots raised, but the referee opts to book the Athletic Club midfielder. It did look like a 50-50, but the home fans don't care at the minute!
90' +1
Andrés Iniesta gets yellow.
We're into the first of three minutes of stoppage time.
90'
Benat lifts a good through ball over Barca's back line for De Marcos to chase, but the utility man is penalised for straying slightly offside. Ter Stegen came to close the angle, but play is halted. The visitors continue to search for a consolation goal, but Athletic Club are defending as though their lives depend on it.
88'
Gurpegi gets yellow.
Only a few minutes remain for Athletic Club to close out a vital clean sheet, with Barca yet to register an away goal in Bilbao. Gurpegi picks up a yellow card for the home side, but the experienced midfielder won't be too concerned. Vermaelen tries to meet the resulting free-kick delivery with his head, but the Belgian commits a foul in the process.
86'
Messi and Suarez look to link up 20 yards out from goal, with the Argentina international clipping a pass into the penalty area with the outside of his boot. Iraizoz is able to race out and claim the ball ahead of the approaching Barcelona striker.
85'
Bóveda enters the game and replaces Susaeta.
84'
Iniesta tries to jink through the Athletic Club midfield, but San Jose is on hand again to stick out an unorthodox boot. Play continues, with Suarez only able to blast a poor effort high and wide of the target. Boveda is ready to enter the fray for the hosts.
82'
All that Barcelona need is one goal. One away goal would change the whole feeling towards this result. Iniesta and Suarez try to link up just inside the penalty area, but the Uruguayan striker is penalised for controlling the ball with his arm. That doesn't stop him from claiming for a penalty as though it was Etxeita who committed his foul for him, of course.
80'
J. Mascherano gets yellow.
Only 10 minutes remain in the Basque country, with Valverde's side very close to closing out the perfect defensive performance that they said they would need to have in order to have a chance at Camp Nou on Monday. Alves wins a corner for the Blaugrana, but Aduriz heads the delivery away.
78'
Bartra makes a good clearing header to deny Aduriz, before the Blaugrana press upfield. Another corner is taken short, but Barca can't seem to penetrate Athletic Club's lines. A dipping effort from the aforementioned defender is the best they can produce, but it clears Iraizoz's crossbar by some distance. The away side are dominating the ball but doing nothing with it.
Minute
Description
77'
Gurpegi enters the game and replaces Eraso.
76'
Suarez tries to race in behind enemy lines and chop into the box, but the Uruguay international is again denied by the linesman's flag. The home fans are really getting vocal, urging their players towards the finish line. As it stands, Athletic Club will take a four-goal lead to Camp Nou - with Barca having no away goals to their name.
74'
Susaeta gets yellow.
Barca win themselves a corner, but the delivery is hooked away in improvised fashion at the near post. Athletic Club try to break, but Adriano does well to halt a quick burst down the right flank. Enrique's men are desperately working to try and grab at least at away goal, but it isn't looking likely at the moment.
72'
Bartra manages to slide in to make a good interception, before a cross from the left-hand side by Balenziaga is snuffed out. Enrique looks to his bench once again, with Sandro introduced in place of the cautioned Pedro. Not a performance he would like to sign off with, but he has probably been the visitors' best player.
71'
Sandro Ramírez enters the game and replaces Pedro.
70'
Xabier Etxeita gets yellow.
Barca are desperately trying to restore some control to this game, with some away goals still able to cushion what looks to be a certain defeat. Messi is teed up on the edge of the penalty area, but the former Newell's Old Boys' forward blasts high and wide.
68'
Penalty goal scored by Aduriz for Athletic Bilbao!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! HAT TRICK FOR ADURIZ! The 34-year-old striker sends Ter Stegen the wrong way and that is 4-0! FOUR-NIL! Athletic Club are running away with it and Barca are despondent.
67'
Dani Alves gets yellow.
PENALTY TO ATHLETIC CLUB! The Barca players cannot believe it! Dani Alves dives into his man at the near post, when the corner delivery wasn't getting anywhere near him! Absolute stupidity from the Brazilian.
66'
Lekue enters the game and replaces Sabin Merino.
Athletic Club are sitting back in compact fashion, with Los Leones on their way to a memorable victory on home soil. Barca look to settle the game and the crowd back down again after Aduriz's second strike, with some patient possession. Enrique can still make one change.
64'
There is a party atmosphere in San Mames, with the home fans hardly believing their luck! Valverde has masterminded a 3-0 lead, but there's still plenty of time left on the clock yet. A through ball looks for Messi, but Iraizoz is off his line in a flash to claim it.
62'
Aduriz has scored a goal for Athletic Bilbao! Assist by Eraso.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! ADURIZ MAKES IT 3-0! Poor defending from Barca again! They just can't get the ball clear, after a cross in from the right-hand side, with the experienced striker thumping home an emphatic finish as a result! It took a deflection off Bartra on its way through.
61'
Sergi Roberto is the man deservedly replaced on the hour mark, with the midfielder doing the damage in the build up to Aduriz's goal. With the Croatia international introduced, Barca's play and tempo should kick up a notch, with the former Sevilla captain often impressing with his energy and intensity.
60'
I. Rakitić enters the game and replaces Sergi Roberto.
59'
Rakitic is being given his final instructions on the bench, with Enrique appearing to have seen enough of the midfield three that he deployed from the outset. They just haven't got this game under control, nor provided a link between defence and attack to give Messi and Suarez the service they need.
57'
Pedro gives away another foul, with the midfielder needing to watch his step after picking up an earlier booking. The home fans are right behind their team and Valverde's side look to be capable of taking a very positive result to Camp Nou next week.
55'
Sabin looks to piece together another dangerous attack, but Mascherano steps out to make a good interception. Barca immediately break, with Pedro found sprinting down the right flank. He tries to hang a cross towards the back post, but it sails directly out of play. The visitors just can't get into gear.
53'
Aduriz has scored a goal for Athletic Bilbao! Assist by Sabin Merino.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! ADURIZ MAKES IT 2-0! A Sergi Roberto mistake gives Athletic Club another opportunity. Sabin wins the ball from the Barca man, before going on a brilliant run down the left. He hangs up a cross from the byline, before Aduriz rises well to do what he does best and head his side two goals in front!
52'
Andrés Iniesta enters the game and replaces Rafinha.
51'
Great save from Iraizoz! Messi is found arriving at the edge of the penalty area by Suarez and looks to guide a side-footed finish into the bottom corner! The goalkeeper gets down to his right to make a timely stop, however! The resulting corner is blasted clear by Eraso.
50'
PEDRO HITS THE BAR! The Spain wide man rattles a shot onto the underside of the crossbar, after cumulative mistakes from the hosts' back four. The rebound bounces high into the air, but Sergi Roberto can only head the follow up straight at Iraizoz.
49'
Benat wins his side a free-kick opportunity on the left flank, but after a little bit of head tennis, the ball is cleared by the visitors. San Jose sees a very tame shot blocked, unable to muster up another wonder goal.
48'
It looks like more of the same in the opening minutes of the second half, with Barca trying to keep hold of the ball and Athletic Club resolutely keeping in shape. Iniesta started to warm up at the half-time break, meaning that we could be seeing the experienced midfielder before long.
46'
We are back underway in the second half at the San Mames! Barca drew a blank in the opening 45 minutes, with Valverde's system nullifying their fearsome trident brilliantly. There is, of course, the second leg still to come at Camp Nou, with Athletic Club are currently in a good place.
45' +1
Great save from Iraizoz! The Basque goalkeeper manages to scamper over to his top right-hand corner, parrying a curling Messi effort away from danger! That was definitely heading in, so the experienced shot-stopper had to get there!
45'
Beñat gets yellow.
Benat is penalised for fouling Pedro on the very edge of the Athletic Club penalty area, after cheekily clipping the heels of his opponent. This is most definitely within Lionel Messi range.
44'
Eraso gets yellow.
Benat has the chance to whip another free-kick effort into the penalty area, but this time Bartra heads half clear. Barca try to break down the left flank at high speed, but Pedro finds himself subject to a cynical trip from Eraso. The summer signing is flashed the game's second yellow card.
42'
Pedro concedes a cynical foul on Susaeta, with Athletic Club able to whip in a delivery from wide on the right-hand side. Benat just does that, but Barca's defence steps out brilliantly and Ter Stegen is left to collect. Only a few minutes remain of the first half in Bilbao.
41'
Pedro gets yellow.
40'
Valverde has his team set up brilliantly this evening, with Enrique surely already thinking of the criticisms and changes that he can make at the break. Barca are being allowed to hold onto the ball in non-dangerous areas, but Los Leones limit anything more expansive than that.
38'
Dani Alves is felled by Sabin around 35 yards from goal, with Enrique's men having the opportunity to load the box with red and yellow shirts. The eventual delivery, however, doesn't even clear the first man. A far cry from the lethal dead-ball efforts from Messi in the opening minutes of the European Super Cup, that's for sure!
36'
San Jose manages to make an interception ahead of Bartra, with the Spain international having a great game in defensive midfield. Moments later, Eraso is picked out in the opposition penalty area, but the former Leganes man can't swivel enough to take a good touch. Athletic Club are looking far more dangerous at the moment, with the Blaugrana trident appearing blunt.
34'
Messi has a rare foray forward with the ball, with the Argentine wide man able to jink inside and try and make something happen. Eraso drops in and robs the diminutive magician of possession, however, before San Jose lays a pass off to his defender to clear.
32'
Barca are trying to settle into their usual rhythm, but without Rakitic and Busquets sitting as a pivot, it is proving to be a big ask. Mascherano is trying to make things happen from a deeper area, but his fellow midfielders aren't offering much. Sabin clips a good cross into the corridor of uncertainty, forcing Vermaelen to hack a hurried clearance over his own crossbar, but Athletic Club can't make anything of the resulting corner.
30'
Aduriz races in behind Bartra, with the lone frontman managing to weave his way into the penalty area and onto his favoured right foot. The linesman's flag is raised for offside, however, with the Athletic Club man jumping the gun by a fair distance. Due to the atmosphere, however, it takes a while for him to hear the referee's whistle!
29'
Athletic Club threaten again on the counter, with Susaeta able to clip a cross into the box from the right-hand side. It is controlled well by Aduriz, but the striker can't take a good enough second touch to set himself for a close-range shot. Earlier in the break, Laporte was felled by a clumsy Pedro tackle, but the referee allows play to continue.
27'
Sabin makes tracks down the left-hand side for Athletic Club, before attempting to clip a pass into Eraso's path on the edge of the penalty area. The idea is easily cut out, however, with Barca taking the chance to break. Pedro weaves his way into the box, before clipping a cross-cum-shot towards the back post, but San Jose is there to clear with his head. The Spain international has been vital in both halves of the field thus far!
25'
Benat manages to nip in and mop up a dangerous Barca attack, with Athletic Club managing to nullify any ideas from the away side with their combative midfield set up. Messi has barely touched the ball yet, with the Argentina international dropping into a more central area to look for it himself.
23'
A long ball from Mascherano heads straight behind for an Iraizoz goal kick, as Blaugrana continue to bash their head against the wall that is Athletic Club's two banks of four. Aduriz might be looking slightly isolated and hasn't received great service, but Los Leones find themselves in a great position as we edge towards the half-hour mark.
21'
Pedro is penalised for a foul on the edge of the Athletic Club penalty area, just as it looked as though the loose ball would be able to bobble through to Suarez. In the aftermath, Balenziaga and the Uruguay international have a chat, with it appearing that there are no hard feelings after the elbow incident.
19'
Barca are just unable to break down the Athletic Club lines at the moment, with Rafinha a little too lightweight to drive through the heart of midfield on his own. Valverde has set his 11 up to frustrate and they have certainly managed to do that thus far. But for the opening five minutes, the hosts have competed with ease.
17'
Enrique has rotated his personnel quite heavily and Barca are suffering for it at the moment. Athletic Club are standing firm with a compact midfield, with Suarez and Messi unable to get any service from their much-changed support system. Alves tries to play a ball down the line for Suarez to chase, but a touch from Laporte puts it behind for a corner. As he shields it out, he appears to deliberately elbow Balenziaga!
15'
First blood to the visitors! All eyes are on San Jose after that ridiculous goal, but Ter Stegen might have been able to clear the ball to a less dangerous area. Sabin whips a cross in from the left-hand side for Athletic Club, but the German goalkeeper gathers up the delivery ahead of the lurking presence of Aduriz.
13'
San José has scored a goal for Athletic Bilbao!
Eraso manages to pick out Susaeta on the right-hand side, with the winger curling a cross onto Vermaelen and behind for a corner. The Belgian defender rises well at the back post to then head clear the set piece he gave away.
GOOOOOOOOOOOAL! WHAT A STRIKE FROM SAN JOSE! The defensive midfielder rattles in a wonderful strike! Ter Stegen heads a long ball clear, before the Spain international tries an audacious half volley! It hurtles over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net from the best part of 45 yards!
11'
Important save from Ter Stegen! The Barcelona goalkeeper gets a strong hand to a near-post effort from Aduriz, before Benat sees a tame shot from the resulting corner charged down! The hosts get a second set piece in quick succession, but Laporte heads over.
9'
Athletic Club are looking to keep things tight early on, but there is plenty of chance for them to grow into proceedings. Vermaelen and Aduriz clash heads in the middle of the field, with the latter appearing to come off a little bit worse. Barca try to play on, much to the audible disgust of the Basque fans. Fortunately, both players are back up and about.
7'
Pedro releases Suarez down the left channel, but the Uruguay international doesn't bend his run well enough and the linesman catches him narrowly offside. Aduriz is then found by a long pass, before the experienced striker tries to poke a pass behind Alves for Sabin to chase, but he gets his wires crossed with his teammate.
5'
Barca's teamsheet will definitely give Athletic Club a lot of encouragement this evening. Vermaelen and Bartra are a new partnership at centre-back, with Adriano recently coming back from injury himself. As for the midfield three, Rafinha and Sergi Roberto are being given huge chances to prove their worth.
3'
Barcelona are enjoying the early possession, with Athletic Club setting out in a conservative 4-1-4-1 formation. San Jose is their midfield anchor, with Eraso and Benat sitting ahead of the Spain international.

We are underway in the first half at San Mames! These two sides have got at least 180 minutes to prove their worth, with Valverde previously stating that a two-legged fixture such as this favours Barca.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup! Barcelona have travelled to the Basque country to face Athletic Club in Bilbao, merely a few days after their European Super Cup triumph against Sevilla in Tbilisi. The Blaugrana had to play 120 minutes in Georgia, which might mean that Ernesto Valverde's side have the physical edge heading into this fixture. The hosts also have their eyes elsewhere, however, given that they have an important Europa League play-off match against Zilina next week.
I'm Simon Harrison and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from the San Mames, as the home team look to keep themselves in with a shout of silverware given that this is a two-legged affair. Despite the fact that Los Leones haven't won a trophy, they find themselves in this clash due to finishing runners up in the Copa del Rey. Athletic Club were defeated 3-1 by Barca at Camp Nou last season in that cup final, with Lionel Messi and Neymar grabbing the goals for the Catalonian giants.
Athletic Club have only won this trophy on one occasion and it was claimed by default. Under previous rules, if a team triumphed in both the league and cup, they did not have to play for the Super Cup at all. Nowadays, however, that isn't the case! Barcelona have a great record in this trophy match, with only themselves and Real Madrid able to boast they have secured more than nine in their history.
TEAM NEWS: Iker Muniain and Jonas Ramalho are both absent due to long-term injury problems, with Ander Iturraspe and Mikel Rico also missing out due to less serious injuries. Kike Sola has been able to return to full training during the past week, while young Inaki Williams has only recovered enough over the summer to start training with a ball recently. Summer signing Javier Eraso slots into midfield from the off, with recently promoted Bilbao Athletic youngster Sabin being deployed on the left-hand side of the attack.
Athletic Club starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Iraizoz; De Marcos, Etxeita, Laporte, Balenziaga; Benat, San Jose; Susaeta, Eraso, Sabin; Aduriz.
Barcelona starting line-up (4-3-3): Ter Stegen; Dani Alves, Vermaelen, Bartra, Adriano; Sergi Roberto, Mascherano, Rafinha; Messi, Suarez, Pedro.
TEAM NEWS: Neymar is absent due to mumps, with Douglas struggling due to injury problems. Jeremy Mathieu and Jordi Masip have been left out of the 18-man squad as a technical decision from Enrique, while Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan play no part due to ineligibility. Sergi Roberto and Rafinha slot either side of Javier Mascherano in midfield, with Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic given a rest. Adriano Correia starts at left-back after injury, while Pedro starts on the left of the attack in what could be one of his final Barca games. Gerard Pique drops out, meaning that Thomas Vermaelen and Marc Bartra are central defensive partners.
Barcelona substitutes: Iniesta, Sandro, Munir, Pique, Bravo, Rakitic, Busquets.
Not long until kick off in the Basque country now! These two sides caused a bit of a stir during the Copa del Rey final, due to their supporters all whistling the Spanish national anthem, with the threat of punishment already hanging over Barca. We shall see what occurs this evening.
HALF TIME! Athletic Club have slender 1-0 lead at the break, with San Jose's thunderbolt the only thing separating the two sides. Barca just haven't really got going and Enrique has some serious thinking to do.
FULL TIME! Athletic Club have managed it! The hosts have stormed to a 4-0 home win over Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup, courtesy of a hat trick from Aduriz and a thunderbolt from San Jose! Enrique's men just never quite got going, with the Blaugrana having a mammoth task on their hands to turn this tie around. That's all that we have time for from the San Mames, I've been Simon Harrison and I hope to see you again next time.
