Ramsey drags back Davis over on the right wing, and Northern Ireland are awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position. It's fired towards the penalty spot, where a group of white shirts are waiting for one last chance, but Allen rises high before heading the ball away from danger. Will that prove to be the final attack of the game?
90' +3
McGinn twists and turns deep down the right wing as he tries to take on Taylor, but he's unable to beat the defender and has to settle for a throw-in. Once again it's launched into the middle of the Wales penalty area, but Hennessey is there again to punch the ball away from danger.
90' +1
Robson-Kanu flies through the middle of the pitch on a quick counter-attack before being clattered to the ground, resulting in a free-kick for Wales 35 yards away from goal. Bale looks to be eyeing up another shot but instead plays it short before launching a lofted pass over to Jonny Williams on the left wing, but he's unable to reach the ball and has to watch it bounce out of play for a goal-kick.
90'
The fourth official has indicated that there will be four minutes of added time.
89'
It's all Northern Ireland at the moment as they desperately push forward in numbers in search of a late equaliser. They do well to win themselves a throw-in deep down the left wing, which is then launched into the heart of the Wales penalty area, but Hennessey is there to cut out the danger with an excellent catch under pressure.
87'
Ashley Williams really looks to be struggling as his left arm dangles by his side. He's definitely done some serious damage to it, but he keeps telling the medical team that he's fine to continue. He's staying on for now, but he may not be able to finish the game if his arm is as damaged as it looks.
85'
Despite both looking slightly worse for wear, both Ashley Williams and Jonny Williams are able to return to the pitch as the game restarts once again. The latter seems to make a quick recovery, however, and then flies down the right flank on an excellent run forward, but, despite his best efforts, he's unable to reach a loose ball before it rolls out of play for a goal-kick.
84'
J. Magennis enters the game and replaces G. McAuley.
With just six minutes left to play, Northern Ireland have made one more attacking change, with McAuley making way for Magennis. Can the Kilmarnock striker help his team find a late equaliser?
83'
Ouch! There's a sickening coming together between Ashley Williams and Jonny Williams in the middle of the pitch as they both go for the ball, leaving the duo down on the ground and in serious discomfort. Both seem to have picked up huge knocks, and this could be the end of the game for at least one of them.
81'
Chance for Cathcart! Northern Ireland win themselves a free-kick over on the right wing, which is flung over to the left-hand side of the Wales penalty area. Dallas then volleys a dangerous cross right on to the head of Cathcart, but the centre-back's effort on goal ends up flying a yard or two over the top of the crossbar before the referee awards a free-kick to Wales for pushing inside the box.

Description
79'
N. McGinn enters the game and replaces O. Norwood.
Northern Ireland have made a late change and, unsurprisingly, it's an attacking one, with McGinn coming on to replace Norwood for the final 11 minutes of the game.
77'
It's now or never for Northern Ireland, who have played so far thus far but are now just 13 minutes away from the Euro 2016 campaign coming to an end. Wales have already started sitting far deeper than before, inviting their opponents to desperately push forward for the remainder of the game.
75'
G. McAuley is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
GOAL! Wales have finally found the back of the net, and it's through an own-goal! Bale is left in a pocket of space over on the left wing and quickly whips a beautiful low cross into the heart of the Northern Ireland penalty area. It looks set to find Robson-Kanu before being cut out by McAuley, but the defender ends up poking the ball past McGovern and into the back of the net. What a horrible way to go behind!
73'
It's been a tough few minutes for Wales, who are failing to find much joy inside the final third of the pitch. Good pressing by Northern Ireland has forced their opponents into launching hopeful long balls forward, but so far none of them have had the desired effect as each have been easily dealt with by McGovern.
71'
Great defending by Chester! Norwood picks up the ball near to the halfway line and quickly picks out Lafferty with a wonderful lofted pass into the left-hand side of the Wales penalty area. The striker meets it well before trying to muscle his way past the defender, but the West Brom man comes out on top thanks to an excellent tackle at the vital moment.
69'
C. Washington enters the game and replaces J. Ward.
Northern Ireland have made their first alteration of the evening, with Ward making way for Washington in an attacking change by Michael O'Neill.
67'
S. Davis gets yellow.
Davis flies into Bale and catches the Real Madrid man on the top of the foot, and the challenge results in a yellow card for the Southampton midfielder.
66'
Gunter flies down the right wing on a great run before swinging a dangerous cross into the middle of the penalty area, but Robson-Kanu is beaten to the ball by Cathcart at the vital moment. The ball then bounces over to Jonny Williams, who had made a quick run into the box, but he too is beaten to it by a white shirt.
65'
Northern Ireland patiently make their way down the left wing through Jonny Evans and Lafferty. The ball is eventually poked over to Dallas, who then curls a cross into the middle of the box, but it's cut out well by Ashley Williams. His clearance can only find the Leeds winger once again, but this time his attempted cross fails to find anyone before bouncing out for a goal-kick.
63'
J. Williams enters the game and replaces J. Ledley.
Wales have made their second substitution of the game, with Ledley making way for Jonny Williams.
61'
Ramsey is starting to find more joy now that space is beginning to open up inside the Northern Ireland half of the pitch. This time, he twists and turns in the middle of the park before launching a cross into the penalty area, but it fails to find a red shirt before bouncing over to the left wing.
59'
The resulting free-kick is flung into the Wales penalty area, where it pinballs around before bouncing out of play for a corner over on the right flank. It's sent over to the far post, where Dallas is waiting, but the ball ends up missing the midfielder's head by the narrowest of margins.
58'
N. Taylor gets yellow.
Northern Ireland quickly try to break away on a counter-attack after dealing with the danger, but Ward is swiftly clattered into by a heavy challenge from Taylor, who becomes the latest player to earn a yellow card as a result.
Great save by McGovern! Bale takes his time eyeing up his target before firing a dipping shot over to the right-hand corner of the net, but the Northern Ireland goalkeeper is there to parry the effort away from danger with a strong diving stop.
57'
Ramsey picks up the ball over on the left and immediately fires a great lofted pass over to Gunter on the opposite flank. The wing-back brings the ball down well before teeing up Bale, who then darts inside and is tripped over by Norwood, resulting in a free-kick for Wales in an incredibly dangerous position 30 yards away from goal.
55'
H. Robson-Kanu enters the game and replaces S. Vokes.
That will be Vokes' last involvement in the game, as he's been replaced by Robson-Kanu for the final 35 minutes.
54'
What a chance for Vokes! Ramsey picks up the ball in space over on the right wing and fires a brilliant cross right on to the head of the Wales striker, but he's unable to move his neck quickly enough and ends up sending his attempt on goal comfortably wide of its intended target. That was a golden opportunity for the Burnley forward!
52'
A poor attempted pass from Ashley Williams fails to find Chester and instead bounces out of play for a throw-in over on the right flank. The throw-in is sent short to Dallas, who then tries to swing a cross over to Lafferty, but there's far too much power behind the pass and it ends up sailing out for a goal-kick.
50'
Northern Ireland keep putting pressure on Wales as they push plenty of bodies forward, and Lafferty then does well to force Ashley Williams into bringing him down with a slightly clumsy foul over on the left. It's taken short and sent over to Corry Evans, whose cross is deflected out to Ward, and the midfielder then quickly unleashes a thumping shot that fails to find its way through the sea of red shirts camped in front of him.
48'
Lafferty picks up the ball midway inside the Wales half of the pitch and immediately embarks on a charging run towards the edge of the penalty area. However, he's dispossessed by Chester before he can reach it, but the defender quickly loses the ball after sending a poor pass forward. The ball is then worked over to Davis, who twists and turns down the right flank before curling a low cross into the box that Ashley Williams does well to thump away from danger.
46'
And we're underway once again!
45'
Northern Ireland patiently try to push down the left flank after doing well to deal with a few consecutive chances on goal for Wales, but they seem to content to hold on to the ball and run down the clock, which they do with what proves to be the last action of the first half.
44'
S. Dallas gets yellow.
Dallas flies into Bale and catches the Real Madrid man on the end of the foot with a clumsy sliding challenge, leaving the referee with no choice but to show the Northern Ireland midfielder the first yellow card of the game. The resulting free-kick is taken short and worked over to Ramsey on the left wing, but his swinging cross over to Bale is poorly hit and only results in a goal-kick.
42'
Bale twists and turns on the right wing as he tries to weave his way past three Northern Ireland players. He's finally able to do so and then swings a deep cross over to the far post, but Hughes is there to chest the ball back into the safe hands of McGovern.
40'
Northern Ireland try to tak Wales by surprise with a low cross towards the near post, where Ward had been left completely isolated. The midfielder then tries to flick the ball towards one of the many white shirts inside the box, but he mistimes his attempted pass and it can only find a red shirt.
39'
Lafferty does wonderfully well to hold up the ball deep down the left wing before having his shirt tugged by Gunter, who gives away a cheap free-kick in a dangerous position. Once again, Norwood sends a dangerous cross into the heart of the Wales penalty area, but this time Davies cuts out the danger before the ball can find Cathcart at the far post, resulting in a corner over on the right flank.
37'
Davis and Ward link up well on the edge of the Wales penalty area before the latter spins and picks out Hughes, who had made a good run down the right wing. The full-back then curls a brilliant cross over towards the far post, where three Northern Ireland players are waiting, but Gunter is just about able to get his head on the ball to flick it out for a throw-in.
35'
Ashley Williams embarks on a rare run towards the Northern Ireland penalty area as Wales throw as many bodies forward as possible. He's out-muscled by a group of white shirts before the ball bounces over to Allen, but the midfielder ends up giving away a free-kick after pushing Norwood out of the way as they battled for possession.
33'
Once again, Bale gets himself into a good position deep inside the Northern Ireland half of the pitch but lets himself down with a pass that fails to find a red shirt. This time it's from 25 yards out and is sent over to Taylor at the far post, but there's too much power behind the ball and it misses the head of the wing-back by a few yards.
31'
Wales lose possession near to the halfway line, allowing Corry Evans to lift a volleyed pass over the head of Chester and into the path of Lafferty. The striker charges into the left-hand side of the penalty area before trying to nod the ball past the West Bromwich Albion defender, but he recovers well before winning back possession deep inside the box.
29'
Dallas tries to muscle his way down the left wing but is bundled over by Allen, and Northern Ireland are awared another free-kick in a dangerous position. Norwood steps up and curls a cross towards the edge of the six-yard box, but Ledley is there to send the ball away for a throw-in with a strong headed clearance.
27'
It's been a tough start for Bale, who has found it difficult to get into the game due to the constant pressure being exerted on him by Northern Ireland. After linking up with Allen just outside of the penalty area, he tries to fire a cross-cum-shot over to the far post, but it's completely scuffed and rolls harmlessly out of play for a goal-kick, much to the amusement of the Northern Ireland fans behind the goal.
25'
Lafferty is starting to look dangerous in front of goal thanks to his height, which he's using to good effect. Jonny Evans breaks forward down the left wing before floating a decent cross right on to the head of the striker, but there's slightly too much power behind his effort on goal and it fails to find its intended target as a result.
23'
Great strike by Ward! After weathering a Wales storm, Northern Ireland are finally able to push out of their own half of the pitch once again. They move the ball around swiftly before Ward finds himself in a pocket of space 25 yards out, and he quickly unleashes a thumping strike that Hennessey is just about able to tip over the top of the crossbar.
21'
It's all Wales at the moment as they start to find more joy inside the Northern Ireland half of the pitch, but Michael O'Neill's men have started well and look incredibly difficult to break down. Bale and Ramsey are both being marked diligently, which is making life very difficult for them.
19'
Ramsey scores, but it's offside! Bale does well to hold the ball up near to the byline before spinning and finding Taylor, who then curls a lovely cross into the heart of the Northern Ireland penalty area. Vokes jumps high and meets it well before nodding the ball over to Ramsey, who then tips the ball over McGovern and into the back of the net, but he's a yard or two offside and the linesman's flag is quickly raised as a result.
17'
Dallas clatters into Gunter and barges the wing-back to the ground, resulting in a free-kick for Wales just inside the Northern Ireland half of the pitch over on the right wing. Ramsey's cross from the set-piece is a good one and finds Vokes, who does well to rise high above McAuley, but the striker is unable to direct his header towards goal and instead sends it bouncing out of play for a goal-kick.
15'
Allen charges through the middle of the pitch before sending a pass over to Gunter, who is in a good position deep down the right flank. He peels away from his marker and curls a lovely cross straight on to the head of Bale, but the Real Madrid man is unable to nod the ball down to a teammate and instead gives possession back to Northern Ireland on the edge of their own box.
13'
Ramsey goes close! Bale picks up possession on the right wing and is immediately closed down by Northern Ireland players. However, he's quick enough to get the ball out his feet and sends a great cross into the box, where Ramsey is waiting in front of goal. The Arsenal midfielder sticks out a foot and tries to flick a shot past McGovern, but he ends up missing the ball by the narrowest of margins.
12'
After dealing with the danger from the corner, Wales try to break down the left flank on a quick attack through Davies. He initially gets forward well before attempting to swing a cross into the Northern Ireland penalty area, but it's overhit and there's nobody there to meet it, resulting in the ball bouncing harmlessly out of play for a goal-kick.
11'
Chance for Dallas! A half-hearted attack breaks down, allowing Northern Ireland to embark on a quick counter-attack. They break forward quickly down the right wing before the ball is worked over to Dallas on the left, and he then unleashes a thumping shot that Hennessey does well to parry round the near post for a corner, which fails to result in a chance on goal.
9'
Northern Ireland comfortably move the ball around before another long pass is fired deep into the Wales half of the pitch. It's only half dealt with by Taylor and momentarily gifts Lafferty with an opportunity to penetrate the penalty area, but Davies is there to deal with the danger on the edge of the box.
7'
Ward is clattered into by Ashley Williams as they both go for the ball in the air, and the coming together results in a free-kick for Northern Ireland in a dangerous position 45 yards away from goal. It's played short before a lofted pass is flung over to Lafferty at the far post, but the striker is penalised for a push on Gunter just as he sends a header across the face of goal.
5'
After spending the first few minutes largely on the back foot, Northern Ireland are finally able to pick up possession near the halfway line. They work the ball around patiently before Cathcart tries to pick out Lafferty with a lofted pass forward, but there's far too much power behind it and it ends up sailing into the hands of Hennessey.
3'
After a good start to the game from Wales, a poor mistake from Ramsey allows the ball to roll out of play for a throw-in near to the halfway line. It's sent long but is easily cut out by Allen, and Jonny Evans than does his best Ramsey impression by carelessly knocking the ball out for another throw-in, this time in Wales' favour.
1'
And we're off! Wales get us underway, attacking from left to right.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Euro 2016 last-16 clash between Wales and Northern Ireland at the Parc des Princes.
The comfortable dismantling of Russia on Monday evening means that Wales are the favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, but in just three games Northern Ireland have shown just how tough a team they are. Narrow defeats to Poland and Germany either side of an excellent 2-0 victory against Ukraine highlighted just how well organised Michael O’Neill’s men are, and they will no doubt be confident about their chances of delivering another upset here today.
It’s safe to say that the group stage campaign was an excellent one for Wales. Making their first ever appearance at a European Championship, they surpassed all expectations by finishing top of Group B, sending rivals England down to second place with a 3-0 thumping of Russia. They now face arguably the biggest test of their international careers as they aim to keep their European adventure alive with what would be another historic victory.
Today’s game is not only the first time that Wales or Northern Ireland have reached the knockout stage of a major tournament since the 1958 World Cup, but it also brings together two home nations in a knockout round clash for the first time. A pre-tournament friendly between the two sides in March ended in a 1-1 draw, but Wales historically have the upper hand. In the 95 games that they have played against one another, the Dragons have won 44 times, with Northern Ireland’s last victory coming back in 1980.
Wales XI (3-5-2): Hennessey; Chester, Ashley Williams, Davies; Gunter, Allen, Ledley, Ramsey, Taylor; Vokes, Bale.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Wales substitute: King, Robson-Kanu, Owain Fon Williams, George Williams, Edwards, Richards, Cotterill, Collins, Jonny Williams, Ward, Vaughan, Church.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill has made just one alteration to the side that lost 1-0 against Germany on Tuesday, with Kyle Lafferty coming into the starting line-up to replace Conor Washington as his side’s sole striker.
Chris Coleman has decided to name an unchanged Wales side to the one that started the 3-0 win against Russia in their final group stage game, with Gareth Bale and Sam Vokes once again leading the line in a well-organised 3-5-2 system.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off. The atmosphere inside the stadium is electric, with both sets of fans in fine voice.
HALF-TIME: WALES 0-0 NORTHERN IRELAND
There hasn't been much to talk about yet, as it's been a rather cagey affair. Northern Ireland have largely sat deep and soaked up the pressure coming from Wales, which, due to a combination of good defending and poor attacking play, hasn't been as good as many were expecting. They seem to be struggling to find space in the middle of the pitch, where both Bale and Ramsey have found it difficult to make much of an impact on the game.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: WALES 1-0 NORTHERN IRELAND
The referee blows his whistle for the final time and confirms Wales' place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016! It was a tough evening for them due to excellent defending from Northern Ireland, but in the end they just about had enough to sink their opponents thanks to a moment of magic from Bale. The Real Madrid man was marked out of the game for the majority of the contest, but he came to life when it mattered and forced McAuley into poking a dangerous cross into the back of his own net.
Wales' historic win means that they now must face the winner of Hungary-Belgium, which takes place tomorrow. As for Northern Ireland, they must now make the long and painful journey home after enjoying such a wonderful tournament, but the future certainly looks bright for Michael O'Neill and his men, who have impressed in France from start to finish.
