SO SO CLOSE! Sturridge hooks in an in-swinging cross that appears primed to be converted by Vardy, but it's taken off his head at the last moment. The corner is sent towards Hart, who suddenly charged forward, but he can't connect...and THAT'S IT!
90' +2
Only moments remaining as Iceland fail to win a free-kick deep in the England half that would have surely milked out the clock. England try to muster one last attack, but Gylfi Sigurdsson smacks the ball clear.
90'
Rashford makes an encouraging shimmy down the left-hand side, but England still can't fashion a shooting chance. Into stoppage time now and it's much the same as before - the ball is sent back every time the Three Lions throw it forward.
89'
A. Traustason enters the game and replaces J. Böðvarsson.
Traustason is on and off goes Bodvarsson.
88'
Iceland are so, so close to setting up a dream quarter-final with France. It's all one-way traffic with the action concentrated around their box, but there's very little for Haldorsson to worry about.
86'
M. Rashford enters the game and replaces W. Rooney.
Last throw of the dice for England here with their final substitution. Rooney trots off and on comes Rashford. Manchester United's past is replaced by Manchester United's future. Will it pay off?
84'
SAVED BY HART! Gunnarsson is sent away on the counter but has Wilshere for company. His dribble isn't pretty, but it's effective in opening up the space for a shot, which is beaten away by the keeper.
82'
Eight minutes remaining here in Nice, and you can feel the belief growing in Iceland with every passing second. They've had the measure of England defensively and now only have the clock to beat.
80'
RIGHT AT THE KEEPER! Wilshere is one of the few England players who can hold his head high in the second half as he pings a ball into Kane at the back post, who pummels a header down the throat of the keeper.
78'
WIlshere has the ball in a good position and spreads it wide to Sturridge, who plants a cross high into the area, where Vardy is unable to muster enough power on the shot to come close to troubling the keeper.

Description
77'
E. Bjarnason enters the game and replaces K. Sigþórsson.
Sigthorsson off and on comes Bjarnason.
76'
Kane fails rather obviously on a penalty appeal against Ragnar Sigurdsson, but England are soon back on the ball. It's the same pattern as before as they really struggle to find space.
74'
England's attack has gone completely stale. Some of their players look a bit tired out there as they keep getting repelled at every turn by Iceland. What a defensive masterclass from the Nordic team!
72'
CAN'T KEEP IT DOWN! The rarest of attacks from Iceland in the second half sees Saevarsson, the right-footed full-back, cut in on his weaker foot and hammer an effort just over the crossbar!
70'
A cross aimed towards the back post is too deep, and another England attack comes to nothing. Bit of a toxic atmosphere from the Three Lions fans to match the lack of belief on the field.
68'
EXCELLENT DEFENDING! Ragnar Sigurdsson is coming up trumps at both ends as he slides in to challenge Vardy, who for one second looked like he was away inside the penalty area.
66'
Kane and Wilshere both have chances to put their laces through the ball, but the pair of them miss the target. It's suffocating pressure from England, bt precious few openings on the end of it.
65'
A. Gunnarsson gets yellow.
Gunnarsson takes out Alli and is shown a yellow card.
64'
The crowd are starting to turn on England a bit here, as they fail to break down the resolute Icelandic ranks. They've created nothing but half chances in the second half so far and time isn't on their side.
62'
Alli very nearly sneaks in a killer ball for Vardy but Ragnar Sigurdsson, who has been exemplary today, intercepts it on the slide. Iceland are playing very defensively at the moment.
60'
J. Vardy enters the game and replaces R. Sterling.
Sterling is withdrawn for Vardy as England seek more firepower.
OVER THE TOP! Sturridge is isolated against a defender out side, and opts for an inswinging cross that is fortuitously deflected into the path of Alli, who hammers a shot well above the goal.
58'
Rose smacks a good ball to Kane, who can't pay the favour forward for Sterling, as his attempted through pass is too close to the full-back. Looks like Very is getting ready on the touchline.
56'
The way that England have huffed and puffed but failed to blow the door down, at least from open play, I feel that another Iceland goal might be curtains for them. Just over half-hour to go now.
54'
SAVED BY HART! My word, Iceland nearly get a third in spectacular fashion! A corner kick causes all sorts of issues at the back, and the ball eventually sits up for Ragnar Sigurdsson, who produces an overhead kick from 10 yards out that Hart parries!
52'
Wilshere again makes an impact with a delicate pass over the top for Alli to chase, but Haldorsson is there to close down the space and claim the ball. The Arsenal man has impressed.
50'
Early taste of Wilshere's effectiveness, as he pins a cheeky little ball to the back post for Kane, who attacks it with a diving header that is swallowed by Haldorsson. Encouraging for England.
48'
Cautiously positive start to the second half from the Three Lions, who have more impetus to attack with the introduction of Wilshere for the defensive-minded Dier. Interesting to see how that pans out.
47'
D. Sturridge gets yellow.
Skulason gets barged over by Sturridge, who is booked.
46'
J. Wilshere enters the game and replaces E. Dier.
Dier is off and Wilshere is on in a clear attacking change from Hodgson.
Here we go again.
44'
Walker turns on the pace to get down the right-hand side, and as soon as he gets past his man, he pulls a cross back to Rooney at the top of the box. The Man Utd man makes contact with his shin, but this is Iceland, not Manchester City so it goes over the bar.
42'
Iceland have abandoned all attacking interest as we approach half-time and it's no surprise why. Taking a 2-1 lead into the break would have been grabbed with both hands pre-match, and they will soon have an opportunity to regroup.
40'
Could have been better! Kane takes charge of a free-kick and whips it towards the back post, where Smalling leaps higher than a pair of defenders, but can't direct his header on target!
38'
G. Sigurðsson gets yellow.
Skulason, the left-back, finds himself in an advanced position centrally, and decides to make sure Hart's still paying attention with a rasping drive that swerves the wrong side of the post. The keeper looked to have had it covered though.
Gylfi Sigurdsson manhandles Rose and is booked for his troubles.
36'
Rose and then Kane are crunched to the floor by tough but legal challenges. Iceland definitely haven't shied away from those in the Euros - meaty tackles fit right into their rudimentary but effective narrative.
34'
Good little recovery this from England in the last few moments, as they push Iceland back in their own half once more. Gaps are starting to appear once again, as there's an increase in urgency from the Three Lions.
32'
The ball bounces kindly for Alli inside the area, but he can't bring it completely under his control, and tries to sell his flubbed feet as a trip inside the box. The referee makes no call - which is the right call.
30'
Sturridge hold up the ball and feeds Sterling inside the area. The Manchester City man sees his path for a shot blocked, so he instead tees up Rose on the overlap, whose cross is deflected into the arms of Haldorsson at the near post.
28'
SUBLIME TECHNIQUE! Sturridge does well to manufacture space for a cross, which is attacked on the volley spectacularly by Kane at the back post, only for Haldorsson to produce an equally commendable save!
26'
England are losing there nerve, and fast. Their attack has stagnated, with Iceland growing in confidence. The next goal, if there is to be one, is so crucial. At 2-2 it's anyone's game, but at 3-1, Iceland will surely be happy to lock things completely up at the back.
24'
Gunnarsson's long throws have been a nightmare, and his latest such delivery has Hart caught up in a challenge with an attacker. The referee, this time, signals for a foul in favour of the England keeper.
20'
Two completely avoidable goals have exposed England here, but they have no time to feel sorry for themselves as Iceland continue to bide their time and wait for their opportunity to push forward.
18'
K. Sigþórsson has scored a goal for Iceland! Assist by J. Böðvarsson.
Bodvarsson exchanged some crisp passes with his teammates on the edge of the box to set that one up.
ICELAND ARE ON A NEW LEVEL! THEY TAKE THE LEAD! Some lovely interplay tucked just inside the D keeps England guessing, and Sigthorsson tries his luck with a low shot that Hart gets a good touch on, but it still squirms through.
17'
Another England long-range attempt that isn't too far off, with Kane this time creating the space for a shot from 20 yards out, but Haldorsson isn't tested once more. England dominant in every way but the scoreboard.
16'
OVER THE TOP! A corner is headed up in the air by Arnason, which causes problems for Haldorsson. Iceland only manage to dispose of the ball as far as Alli just outside the area, and the Spurs man lashes a half-volley that whistles over the crossbar.
14'
Hodgson is heard on camera screaming for his team to keep the ball moving. England have initiated a good tempo here, but Iceland are quite happy to let them get cute with the ball, as long as it doesn't enter the penalty area.
12'
OOH...danger there for Iceland as a tricky Rooney corner flashes all the way across the penalty area, with Smalling among those narrowly missing a connection. Some great action already.
10'
The Iceland fans are giving a warlike effort in the stands, seeking to rattle England with booming chants. Their team is defending well against the waves of possession from the Three Lions so far.
8'
It might be caveman football but the scoreboard doesn't lie! Iceland score one of the most route one goals you will ever see, and it's interesting how much panic that long throw caused inside the penalty area. Isn't this the country that gave us Tony Pulis' Stoke City though?
6'
R. Sigurðsson has scored a goal for Iceland! Assist by K. Árnason.
Arnason was able to get the crucial touch on a long throw to put it in position for the goal.
MY WORD THEY'RE LEVEL! Iceland waste no time in getting back on track, as Ragnar Sigurdsson prods the ball home, getting first to a flick-on from a long throw. What a start we have here!
4'
Penalty goal scored by W. Rooney for England!
ROONEY SCORES! The Manchester United man makes no mistake, tucking in a neat effort into the bottom corner to send England into a dream start here!
ENGLAND HAVE A PENALTY! Sterling races in behind the defence to latch onto a high ball, but Haldorsson is off his line to meet him, bundling over the Manchester City man to concede a spot-kick!
3'
Good start from the Three Lions here, as they pin Iceland back in their own half almost instantly. Sturridge gets the first glimpse at a chance, but fires his effort harmlessly wide of the mark.
1'
We're rolling!
Hello and welcome to our live commentary of the Euro 2016 round of 16 clash between England and Iceland. It's the underdogs versus the...underachievers? The Three Lions could only finish second in Group B and face their first - and potentially last - test of the knockout stages. Stick with us for all the action.
England could only manage a goalless draw with Slovakia in their final group game, meaning that they ended up with second place and a spot on the tougher half of the knockout bracket. France's victory over the Republic of Ireland means that they will await the victor of this clash in the quarter-finals.
Iceland have been the feel-good story of the Euros this summer, finishing second in Group F after three unbeaten matches. Every step forward they take in the tournament makes history, as they will contest their first-ever knockout-stage fixture at a major international competition this evening.
Iceland subs: Kristinsson, Hauksson, Hermannsson, Ingason, Finnbogason, Sigurjonsson, Theodor Elmar Bjarnason, Magnusson, Hallfredsson, Traustason, Gudjohnsen, Jonsson.
Iceland (4-4-2): Halldorsson; Saevarsson, Arnason, R. Sigurdsson, Skulason; Gudmundsson, Gunnarsson, G. Sigurdsson, Bjarnason; Sigthorsson, Bodvarsson.
Jamie Vardy has been benched in favour of Raheem Sterling, who flanks Harry Kane along with Daniel Sturridge. Hodgson rested six players for the Slovakia match, and among the other returnees are full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.
Familiar faces abound in the Iceland team, with Lars Lagerback naming the same starting XI for all four of his side's Euro 2016 matches now. Gylfi Sigurdsson will conduct this orchestra from midfield, while Arnor Traustason, who got that late, late winner against Austria, is on the bench once more.
This is only the third encounter between these two sides, with England smashing Iceland 6-1 in their most recent meeting in 2006, while they both played out a 1-1 draw all the way back in 1982.
No stoppage time here as the referee sends both sides down the tunnel for half-time. England got off to a dream start thanks to Rooney's fifth-minute penalty, but Iceland kept their heads and hit back with goals from Ragnar Sigurdsson and Sigthorsson turned the game on its head. The Nordic fantasy continues at the Euros, and it's the Three Lions who have to muster a way back into this one. Stay tuned for the restart soon.
ICELAND ARE THROUGH! The greatest result in their history as they claim the scalp of England in the second round, with a gritty performance to set up a quarter-final clash with France. As good as Iceland were, England were obscenely bad. It was the worst sort of plodding and ponderous display from them, as they falter at the knockout stages once again. Iceland go on, England go home. And we will sign off for now.
