There will be three minutes added on at the end of this match, though they are nothing more than a formality really.
90'
C. Martins gets yellow.
Martins goes into the book for a cynical trip in midfield.
89'
Elsewhere in Group A it's all coming down to the wire. Belarus lead Bulgaria 2-1 and Sweden remain tied 1-1 with France as both matches head into the 90th minute. Both would be positive results for the Dutch, who very much took care of business themselves here tonight.
87'
STAT: Dick Advocaat has coached more Netherlands matches at De Kuip without losing one (10, including tonight) than any other Dutch national team manager.
85'
F. Bohnert enters the game and replaces G. Rodrigues.
Luxembourg's final change sees Florian Bohnert replace Rodrigues.
84'
Penalty goal scored by V. Janssen for Netherlands!
EMPHATICALLY FINISHED! Janssen unloads an unstoppable spot-kick into the top corner, sending Schon the wrong way. Even if the keeper had guessed right, there's not a single one in the world who would keep out that penalty.
83'
PENALTY TO NETHERLANDS! Delgado hangs his keeper out to dry with a ridiculous back pass and Shon, who has been so good tonight, just can't get there in time as he arrives a split-second late, clipping Janssen and conceding the penalty - though he's hardly to blame here.
82'
N. Aké enters the game and replaces W. Sneijder.
A third and final change for the Dutch as Nathan Ake replaces Sneijder, who gets a thoroughly deserved ovation for his record-breaking day, which he's also capped with a goal.
80'
Into the final 10 minutes now and it looks like both sides are ready to close up shop. Luxembourg enjoy a prolonged spell in possession, though they hardly cross midfield, as the Dutch back off and let them take the sting out of this match which has long been over now.
Minute
Description
78'
S. de Vrij gets yellow.
De Vrij goes through Turpel to win the ball, showing no regard for the striker, and that doesn't make the referee very happy as the yellow card is rightfully produced.
77'
Luxembourg are showing little ability to fight back here as the Dutch continue to push forward at will. Possession is incredibly lopsided and has been for the majority of this match, with Cillessen having just the one save to make still, and that was a product of his own error.
75'
THAT MAN AGAIN! What would this score be without the unbelievable efforts of Schon tonight? It's not just the quantity of saves he's made, but the quality. He produces another here, showing some superb reactions to deny De Vrij's header from in close!
73'
J. Lens enters the game and replaces A. Robben.
Huge cheers around De Kuip as Robben makes way for the final 20 minutes, replaced by Jeremain Lens. The Bayern winger heads over to give Sneijder the captain's armband before departing - a lovely gesture for Sneijder on the day he becomes the Netherlands' most capped player.
72'
STAT: The Netherlands have yet to keep a clean sheet through five qualifying matches this campaign, but only once have they conceded more than a single goal – in a 2-0 defeat away to Bulgaria.
70'
Q. Promes has scored a goal for Netherlands! Assist by S. de Vrij.
Promes will snatch the headlines for the goal, but the beauty in that came from the read and delivery from De Vrij, who is rightfully credited with the assist.
IT'S A ROUT IN ROTTERDAM! Great read from De Vrij to intercept a pass, which he then takes forward on the right before dropping a world-class cross on the head of Promes in the centre, who heads home with ease! It took him just four minutes to score off the bench.
68'
ANOTHER OUTSTANDING STOP! Once again a save out of the top drawer from Schon, who manages to soar through the air at full-stretch to deny a vintage left-footed Robben strike! That one was destined for the back of the net, but Schone continues to do his part to limit the damage.
66'
Q. Promes enters the game and replaces M. Depay.
Advocaat makes his first change of the match as Quincy Promes comes on to replace Depay.
64'
Surely three points are in order now for the Dutch, who will go about working on improving their goal differential now, as that could prove to be a deciding factor in the fight for second place in Group A - assuming France don't relinquish their healthy lead atop the group.
62'
G. Wijnaldum has scored a goal for Netherlands!
THERE'S THE THIRD! Veltman's cross in from the right is only partially cleared by Luxembourg, as the ball is thrust into a dangerous area where Wijnaldum is on hand to meet it, powering a smart finish beyond the reach of Schon!
61'
Somehow the Netherlands still only lead by the two goals, despite dominating for the duration of this second half. Schon has come up huge time and time again, but Luxembourg are living on borrowed time.
59'
Delightful running by Robben as he somehow navigates his way through a very tight space, surrounded by three defenders, before trying to chip an effort in at the far post, but the end product is just lacking the required quality as Schon is able to stab it away!
57'
STAT: The Netherlands have won 13 of the 16 previous meetings between the two nations (D1 L2), with Luxembourg’s last victory over the Oranje coming in October 1963.
55'
K. Malget gets yellow.
Reckless and unnecesary from Malget who slides into a late challenge and is issued a yellow card, the third of the night to be booked for the visitors.
54'
L. Gerson enters the game and replaces V. Thill.
That won't sit well! Vincent Thill is replaced here by Lars Gerson, and the 17-year-old ignores the outstreched hand of his coach before making a fuss on the touchline, kicking a few waterbottles and a cooler before sitting down in disgust. That's not a good look, but these Dutch fans love it.
52'
How close was that?! Inches is the answer as Sneijder bends an effort just narrowly wide of the far top corner, coming a whisker away from what would have been a truly spectacular goal. The Dutch are knocking on the door once again.
50'
V. Thill gets yellow.
Vincent Thill becomes the second Luxembourg player to be booked on the night.
49'
OFFSIDE! Absolutely stunning throughball from Blind to send Janssen behind the defence! The striker finishes the move delightfully as the Dutch appear to go 3-0 up, but the offside flag is raised! The replay shows it was the right call in the end, but only by the narrowest of margins.
47'
SO CLOSE! Just as he did at the start of the match, Robben nearly scores inside the first to minutes of the half! Here he lines up a terrific strike from just over 20 yards, but Schon reaches out at full-stretch to get just enough of a touch to see it behind!
46'
Back underway in Rotterdam!
45' +2
HALF-TIME: NETHERLANDS 2-0 LUXEMBOURG.
45' +1
CILLESSEN FORCED INTO ACTION! The keeper saves his blushes as a dreadful pass out from the back is gifted to Bensi, who nicks it forward for Sebastien Thill, but Cillessen does well to get down to his left and parry.
45'
There will be two minutes added on at the end of this first half.
44'
The tempo has fizzled out as we approach the interval. This referee, though consistent, has been a bit too liberal with his whistle as a plethora of stoppages have really taken the sting out of the match.
42'
STAT: In 64 all-time World Cup qualifiers away from home, Luxembourg have kept just one clean sheet – a 0-0 draw with Moldova in September 2009 (W1 D5 L58).
40'
Brave goalkeeping from Schon who lunges out to collect a free-kick, knowing full well he is going to be clattered into by Robben, which proves to be the case. The keeper is sent flying to the ground but manages to hold onto the ball, before the two players exchange a sporting handshake. Nice bit of respect shown between the two players there.
38'
There's more good news for the Netherlands coming from elsewhere in Group A as Belarus lead Bulgaria and Sweden trail France. Provided these results hold, it would catapult the Dutch from fourth place into a share of second.
36'
Strootman should have made it three! Robben bends a delicious ball into the area, behind the defence, with Strootman running on to meet it. He gets his foot to it, but just scuffs the contact as it bounced in at an awkward height, as his first-time effort drifts wide!
34'
W. Sneijder has scored a goal for Netherlands! Assist by M. Depay.
WHAT A MOMENT! Wesley Sneijder marks his record-breaking 131st international cap with his 31st goal, and it's a vintage strike from the midfielder, driven hard and low into the bottom corner from the top of the box!
Depay picked out Sneijder in space and is credited with the assist.
32'
The tempo has really slowed a bit as the Netherlands aren't showing much urgency anymore. It's all far more pedestrian from them right now as they seem to be suffering a bit from complacency - not what you want to see as a Dutch supporter.
30'
STAT: The Netherlands have won successive matches for the first time since June 2016. They have not won three in a row since June 2014.
28'
The Dutch have an excellent width about them with each attack, but Luxembourg are slowly starting to grow into the game again. The pressure on their goal has dwindled a bit and they're enjoying more prominent spells in possession in midfield - though there's still little being shown in attack.
26'
R. Delgado enters the game and replaces M. Chanot.
Luxembourg are forced into their first change here as Ricardo Delgado comes on to replace the injured Chanot.
23'
Back on the front foot and looking for more are the Netherlands. You get the sense that the floodgates might just open here if Luxembourg aren't careful. They're coming under waves of pressure as the noise builds in De Kuip.
21'
A. Robben has scored a goal for Netherlands! Assist by W. Hoedt.
Hoedt shows he's got a bit of skill in those defensive boots, picking up the assist with a clever throughball.
RELIEF IN ROTTERDAM! Hoedt does splendidly to win the ball in midfield and quickly thread a delicious ball through for Robben, who sprints in on goal and sends a composed finish beyond the reach of Schon! That's a goal the Dutch so desperately needed!
20'
STAT: Luxembourg have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 matches across all competitions, dating back to a 1-0 friendly win over Greece in November 2015.
18'
Vital from De Vrij! Luxembourg negotiate their first chance of the night as a cross in from the right looks tasty for Turpel, but De Vrij just gets higher to flick it safely behind! That's turning into quite the duel between the two of them.
16'
L. Jans gets yellow.
Jans lunges into a challenge on Depay, with the ball there to be won, but he gets the timing of it all wrong, catching the forward dangerously as he goes into the book.
15'
Dominance from the Dutch, who are unbeaten in 22 matches at this venue. They're dictating the pace and getting right after the Luxembourg defence at every opportunity, while the visitors have struggled mightily to keep possession for more than a few seconds at a time.
13'
PARRIED SMARTLY! Another chance for the Dutch, who don't seem all that far away from the opener. Memphis picks out Janssen in space, and the striker does really well to collect, turn and fire at goal, but Schon is able to get two strong hands to the effort as he sees it to safety.
11'
STAT: The Netherlands have won nine successive matches over Luxembourg, outscoring them 34-1.
9'
SCHON TO THE RESCUE! Dreadful, careless, reckless... call it what you want! Luxembourg playing with fire at the back as Mahmutovic sends a horrid pass back towards goal which is pounced upon by Janssen. The striker tries to round the keeper, but Schon does brilliantly to dive in and pluck the ball away to deny the opener!
7'
De Vrij is bleeding quite a bit, but it's encouraging to see him jog off the pitch on his own accord. Turpel is also on the touchline being bandaged up by the training staff. It's unclear whether or not either will be able to continue, though they should at least be afforded the opportunity to play on a bit here.
6'
Terrible sight for the Dutch and De Vrij, who goes down with a knock after a mid-air collision. He's got a nasty gash on the head and that's prompted Matthijs de Ligt to start warming up. De Vrij has been cursed by injuries this season, missing the bulk of the campaign with Lazio, so this is a real shame to see.
4'
Luxembourg really need to sort out their defence here as they're coming under a lot of pressure in these early stages, looking awfully vulnerable at the back in the process. Depay wins a corner at the end of a nice piece of play, which Sneijder delivers, but the visitors are finally able to see aside the threat and get a bit of respite.
2'
TERRIFIC SAVE! The Oranje nearly open the scoring inside of two minutes as Robben and Janssen orchestrate a clever give-and-go, but Schon does very well to spread himself wide and deny the Bayern winger from point-blank range! You really would fancy Robben to be scoring from there, though.
1'
AND THEY'RE OFF! Luxembourg in white as they get the match underway, attacking right to left, with the Dutch in their classic orange.
Hello and welcome to live coverage from De Kuip in Rotterdam as Netherlands host Luxembourg in this UEFA World Cup qualifying match!
Dick Advocaat kicked off his third tenure in charge of the Dutch national team with a lopsided 5-0 thrashing of Ivory Coast on Sunday, and now faces a must-win qualifier in his second game in charge – albeit against Group A minnows Luxembourg.
The Netherlands currently sit fourth in Group A, six points back of leaders France and two back of Sweden for second spot, which comes with a spot in the play-off. It’s going to prove a tough road back for the Dutch to qualify for Russia 2018, as they’re in danger of missing their second successive major tournament.
The Oranje do seem to have turned a corner, winning friendlies over Morocco and Ivory Coast in the past fortnight, but they will count for nothing if they are unable to get their qualifying campaign back on track tonight. Anything less than three points may leave them with too big a hole to climb out of.
Luxembourg, despite sitting bottom of their group, have fared well in their two away matches in qualifying, narrowly losing 4-3 at Bulgaria and holding Belarus to a 1-1 draw. They did lose 3-1 while hosting the Netherlands in the reverse fixture, however.
Wesley Sneijder earns a record 131st cap tonight as he becomes the Netherlands’ all-time leader in that regard, passing previous record holder Edwin van der Sar. He starts alongside Kevin Strootman and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield. At the back, Advocaat has elected to go with Lazio centre-half pairing Stefan de Vrij and Wesley Hoedt, with Joel Veltman and Daley Blind on the wings. Vincent Janssen leads the line, flanked by Arjen Robben and Memphis Depay, who scored a brace in a 3-1 win over Luxembourg in the reverse fixture.
Luxembourg are without their top scorer Aurelien Joachim as David Turpel is called upon to lead the line. He will have support in the form of Stefano Bensi and Sebastien Thill, as well as Sebastien’s 17-year-old brother and burgeoning Metz talent Vincent Thill. The vastly experienced Lars Gerson is left on the bench as young Lyon reserve Christopher Martins is preferred in midfield. At the back, Middlesbrough’s Enes Mahmutovic earns his fourth cap, partnering New York City FC’s Maxime Chanot in the centre of defence.
Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder have Dick Advocaat's third tenure as Netherlands boss off to a flier. It was predominantly one-way traffic in that first half, with the Dutch thoroughly deserving of their lead, which could have been greater had it not been for Luxembourg keeper Ralph Schon.
Five goals from five different scorers for the Dutch as Dick Advocaat follows a 5-0 win over Ivory Coast in his first game back in charge of the national team with a duplicate result against Luxembourg, on a night where Wesley Sneijder became the Netherland's most capped player of all-time - an occasion he marked with a goal. Arjen Robben, Georginio Wijnaldum, Quincy Promes and Vincent Janssen also got in on the act for the Oranje.
That's all for our live coverage, thanks for following along. Goodbye!
