Into added time now and the Netherlands are set for a comfortable win, after a much better second half performance.
90'
Late opportunity for Romania to cause some issues as they win a free-kick out on the left. Stanciu elects not to deliver and instead tries for goal, wasting an opportunity as it's miles over the bar. It would have taken something special to beat Cillessen from that angle.
88'
CHANCE! The Netherlands should have had their fourth! De Jong surges through on goal but can't beat Pantilimon one-on-one, with the resulting corner coming to nothing.
87'
Q. Promes enters the game and replaces D. Blind.
Another change for Holland, Quincy Promes gets a run out for the final few minutes and Manchester United's Blind makes way as a result.
85'
Four goals in each of their last two games against Romania, can the Netherlands continue the trend tonight? They're running out of time but the second half has seen a huge improvement from them.
83'
D. van de Beek enters the game and replaces S. Berghuis.
Berghuis is certainly Man of the Match this evening and he's given a well earned rest, with Donny van de Beek coming on to make his international debut.
81'
L. de Jong has scored a goal for Netherlands! Assist by S. Berghuis.
Berghuis may not have been a hit during his short stint with Watford but he's been spectacular in the second-half, with all three goals being created by him on the right hand side.
GOAL! The Netherlands have their third and it's Berghuis again creating the chance! From a free-kick out wide on the right, he lofts a ball into the middle that isn't dealt with and De Jong gets down low to head past Pantimilon. It's his fourth goal for his nation and his first since scoring against the Republic of Ireland in 2016.
79'
Another sight of goal for Romania but they're still yet to truly test Cillessen in this second-half. Alibec tries to curl into the top corner but doesn't get his angles right, with his effort sailing wide of the mark.
78'
T. Vilhena enters the game and replaces K. Strootman.
Highly-talented youngster Tonny Vilhena is the latest man to take to the field for the Netherlands, replacing Strootman in the heart of the midfield.
77'
Romania, to be fair, now look to be the most likely to score next and are enjoying a decent spell in the match. Ganea has just struck wide of the right hand post, after trying his luck from distance.
Minute
Description
75'
M. Pintilii enters the game and replaces O. Hoban.
Another Romania change, as Haban is taken off and replaced by Pintilii.
73'
Ake wins a free-kick just outside the box on the left, giving Sneijder the chance to deliver. The veteran's delivery is poor though and Romania break on the counter as a result, though they're unable to craft an opening.
71'
Romania are showing some signs of life but the Netherlands are dominating this one. Ake is now playing on the left side of defence and is not agraid to get forward.
69'
Romania appeal for a penalty after a tumble in the box but the referee isn't interested. The home fans are furious but they don't really have a leg to stand on.
67'
D. Alibec enters the game and replaces E. Bicfalvi.
Yet another change for the hosts, Bicfalvi is replaced by Alibec.
65'
New look sides across the board then but the writing appears to be on the wall in this match, Romania need a miracle if they're to get back in it.
63'
G. Torje enters the game and replaces S. Hanca.
G. Grozav enters the game and replaces F. Tănase.
The hosts respond by making changes of their own. Torje takes to the field, with Hanca making way.
Tanase is also brought off, with Gheorghe Grozav his replacement. He scored twice against Turkey last week as Romania won 2-0.
62'
W. Sneijder enters the game and replaces M. Depay.
M. van Ginkel enters the game and replaces D. Pröpper.
L. de Jong enters the game and replaces R. Babel.
Just as predicted. Depay's night is at a close as he's replaced by Sneijder, who extends his record as the Netherland's all-time most capped player as a result. 133 and counting for the 33-year-old winger.
There's also a change in midfield for the visitors, with Brighton's Propper replaced by serial Chelsea loanee Van Ginkel.
Babel hasn't had the best of games but did get himself on a scoresheet. He also makes way, with De Jong coming on.
60'
Now an hour gone in Bucharest, so there's likely to be a plethora of substitutions right around the corner.
58'
Surely no way back for Romania now. Holland have scored four goals in each of their last two meetings with Romania and it would take a brave man to bet against the same happening tonight.
56'
R. Babel has scored a goal for Netherlands! Assist by S. Berghuis.
Berghuis has stepped out of the shadows in this second-half and now stands as the best performer on the field, with two fantastic pieces of play to set up the goals for the Netherlands.
GOAL! The Netherlands have a second and it's Berghuis the creator again! He's proving to be a real handful down the right and his low delivery into the six yard box puts the ball on a plate for Babel.
54'
CHANCE! Depay continues to be a menace and tries his luck for a second of the evening, seeing a shot from outside the area bobble wide of the left post.
52'
Romania haven't really shown enough so far to suggest they can breach the Netherlands defence, so it's extremely difficult to see them turning this match around.
50'
E. Bicfalvi gets yellow.
It may be a friendly but the referee is taking no nonsense. Bicfalvi is the second player to enter the book this evening, earning a yellow card for a poor challenge.
49'
Nine goals in 35 international appearances for Depay now, who's found his feet since moving to Lyon. Have a feeling he'll be integral to the new-look Netherlands attempting to qualify for the 2020 European Championships.
47'
M. Depay has scored a goal for Netherlands!
GOAL! The Netherlands take the lead! Superb play from Berghuis down the right gives him acres of room to work with and his delivery takes a wicked deflection, looping up in the air to find Depay at the back post for an easy finish.
46'
N. Stanciu enters the game and replaces C. Budescu.
F. Andone enters the game and replaces G. Țucudean.
Changes for the hosts at the break, Andone has come on to replace Tucudean in attack.
Second change at the break sees Stanciu replace Budescu, meaning the hosts have changed their front two.
45'
OFFSIDE! Babel has the ball in the back of the net right on half-time after heading home Depay's cross but he moved too early.
Back underway in Bucharest, with Romania now kicking to the right.
43'
Romania will certainly be the happier of the two sides if it remains like this for half-time. They've looked adequate in attack, whilst composed in defence.
41'
Depay has looked to be the brightest player for the visitors this evening but his latest cross into the box is wasted by Babel, who only loops a header straight up into the air.
39'
J. Veltman gets yellow.
It takes some skill to get a booking in a friendly match but Veltman has the honour, picking up a yellow card after a clear sign of dissent towards the referee.
37'
Super skills from Depay out wide on the left see him create an opening but his cross is poor. He wins a corner though, which he takes short himself. Romania struggle to get the ball away properly but finally remember how to defend.
35'
Ten minutes to go before the half and it's looking like we won't see a goal before the interval. Would be nice if the Netherlands played an actual striker after the break, rather than utilising Babel between the two wingers.
33'
Not too many golden opportunities for either side this half, which is perhaps why neither will be gracing the World Cup next summer.
31'
Free-kick in a dangerous area for Romania but Budescu only manages to threaten the astronauts on the International Space Station as he fires into orbit.
30'
Promising attack from Romania sees the hosts threaten down the right and win a corner. Budescu goes over to take and his delivery is decent but the Netherlands eventually get the ball away, then unsuccessfully trying to hit on the counter.
28'
Strong challenge from Ganea is a dangerous one and he earns a telling off from the referee. Had this been a competitive match, he would have probably found himself in the notebook.
26'
Babel, playing as the false nine this evening, is flagged offside in the latest attack from the visitors. He'll certainly need to get involved in the game more, as he's failed to link-up with his fellow attackers thus far.
24'
The Netherlands have had the clear cut chances in the opening third of this match but Romania have also had a few decent opportunities, meaning the game is very finely poised.
22'
CHANCE! The corner was dealt with but Romania come straight back. Tucudean almost diverts the ball past Cillessen from a few yards out but the Barcelona stopper stands firm, eventually winning a free-kick.
21'
The Netherlands are banging on the door but Romania have already shown they can be a threat. Chipciu is putting Van Dijk under a lot of pressure defensively, winning a corner, though it comes to nothing.
19'
SAVE! Pantilimon again denies the Netherlands, this time with a superb save! Babel robs the defence and surges through on goal, firing a ferocious effort towards the near post but he's prevented by the Deportivo stopper.
18'
Best chance of the game falls to the visitors, as Depay cuts the ball back to the edge of the area where Propper forces Pantilimon into a save.
16'
A decent spell in the game now for Romania, who's stepped things up a notch, but they still look unable to truly test the Netherlands defence.
14'
Romania's have another strike at goal, with Budescu firing from range, but Cillessen is again equal to the attempt.
12'
Free-kick for the Netherlands after a foul on Ake from Chipciu, which came after Romania had cleared away a corner. Depay aims for goal and Pantilimon palms the ball away, then clutching onto Ake's header.
9'
First shot at goal sees Budescu take sight, from a frankly ridiculously long way out, and he unsurprisingly fails to threaten Cillessen.
7'
Veltman wins a free-kick for the visitors down the right hand side following a foul from Budescu. Berghuis steps-up to deliver into a crowded penalty box but the Romania defence stands firm, comfortably clearing the ball away.
5'
The Netherlands are yet to really get going here but are at least putting Romania under pressure when they're without the ball.
3'
Romania, who handed Chiriches a special shirt ahead of kick-off to celebrate his 50th cap for the national side, have started well here and have enjoyed the lion's share of possession.
1'
Early foul from Blind on Hoban gives Romania a free-kick in a defensive area.
KICK-OFF! We're underway here at the National Stadium in Bucharest. The hosts get us started, kicking from right to left.
Good evening and welcome to our LIVE text commentary of the international friendly between Romania and the Netherlands. Both sides failed to qualify for next year's World Cup so there's plenty of work ahead, particularly for this evening's visitors.
Finishing fourth in their qualifying group, Romania were a hefty 12 points behind Group E winners Poland and seven points behind runners-up Denmark. With just three wins from their ten matches, they're clearly a long way off their historic side from the 1994 World Cup and have now gone two decades without featuring in football's elite international tournament.
Whilst Romania are expected absentees from next year's tournament, the situation is completely different for the Netherlands. Having finished third in 2014, the nation have suffered difficult years and have now failed to qualify for back-to-back major international tournaments, also missing out on Euro 2016. Third in their group behind France and Sweden, an inquest has begun and big changes are expected in the coming years.
Netherlands XI: Jasper Cillessen; Joel Veltman, Nathan Ake, Virgil Van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt; Davy Propper, Kevin Strootman, Daley Blind; Steven Berghuis, Ryan Babel, Memphis Depay.
Netherlands subs: Georginio Wijnaldum, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Sergio Padt, Marco Van Ginkel, Quincy Promes, Tonny Vilhena, Donny van de Beek, Wesley Sneijder, Jereon Zoet, Luuk De Jong.
Holland are also bleeding new faces into their side, with Football Manager wonderkid De Ligt, just 18, earning his third cap. Van Der Beek and goalkeeper Padt are on the bench, hoping to make their debuts. Amidst all that, Wesley Sneijder will look to extend his record as his nation's most capped player if he takes to the field, already boasting an incredible 132 caps.
Romania have beaten the Netherlands just once in their history, with that win coming in a European Championship qualifier in 2008. The two sides last feature against each other in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, with the Netherlands winning both matches- scoring four goals in each.
That's it for a first-half which has been largely disappointing, not offering too many moments of note. Babel has come the closest to scoring, testing Pantilimon at his near post, whilst also seeing a goal chalked out for offside. As it stands though, there's certainly plenty of room for improvement after the break.
Romania will be the happy with their performance in the first 45 minutes as they've kept the Netherlands on their toes while attacking, whilst also limiting the opportunities that their visitors have. Pantilimon has been tested though but hasn't really been called into any decisive action.
One positive for the Netherlands from that first period is the performance of Memphis Depay, who's proved to be a real asset, but his contribution is limited without a recognised striker playing through the middle. Babel has far from set this game alight and it probably won't be too long until Luuk De Jong gets a chance.
Romania XI: Costel Pantilimon; Sergiu Hanca, Vlad Chiriches, Cosmin Moti, Cristean Ganea; Alexandru Chipciu, Ovidiu Hoban, Eric Bicfalvi, Florin Tanase; Constantin Budescu, George Tucudean.
Romania's line-up tonight includes a number of notable names and they continue to hand opportunities to new faces. Tanase is set to earn his third caps this evening, whilst Tucudean earns his second cap after making his debut in the 2-0 victory over Turkey. Gheorghe Grozav scored both in that match but sits on the bench tonight.
Romania subs: Florin Nita, Gheorghe Grozav, Alexandru Mihail Baluta, Ciprian Deac, Mihai Pintilii, Claudiu Keseru, Denis Alibec, Nicolae Stanciu, Bogdan Lobont, Dragos Grigore, Mihai Balasa, Alin Tosca, Gabriel Torje, Nicusor Bancu, Florin Andone.
FULL-TIME! The Netherlands win this one after an impressive second-half, where Steven Berghuis inspired his nation to victory. He played an integral part in all three goals, with Memphis Depay, Ryan Babel and Luuk De Jong all finding the net. Romania simply weren't at the races after the break.
Romania's 2017 ends in defeat then and it's a disappointing result, particularly as they looked stable in the first period. It all fell apart after the break though as Berghuis caused the defence all sorts of problems down the right, giving them a mountain to climb.
The Netherlands weren't impressive in the first 45 minutes but turned the heat on after the break, led by the excellent Berghuis. There's still room for improvement though and some issues need to be resolved before the qualification for the 2020 European Championships gets underway, where we could see a new-look side brought through.
