A silly yellow for Arter to pick up as he doesn't retreat in anticipation of a Spurs free-kick, which prompts the referee to put him into the book.
FULL-TIME: TOTTENHAM 1-0 CARDIFF CITY.
90' +4
It doesn't appear as though it's going to happen for Cardiff, as Spurs are knocking it around capably in defence with the visitors enjoying little success in their pursuit to win it back. The travelling fans are in full voice as the clock winds down, however, encouraged a great deal by the performance of their side today.
90' +2
Bamba is high up the pitch for Cardiff as they're hoping to use him as a target man up top. It's left a hole in their defence, however, and Lucas nearly takes advantage as he knocks the ball forward in an attempt to get behind the defence, but Ecuele Manga does very well to recover and snuff out the chance.
90'
The fourth official indicates there will be a minimum of five minutes added on at the end of this match. Is there to be a twist in the tale?
88'
B. Davies enters the game and replaces D. Rose.
Davies finally comes on now to replace Rose, and play can resume again. Surely there will be a fair bit of time added on at the end here, as the match has barely been going in the last five minutes.
86'
Another stoppage now as Rose goes down and requires attention from the training staff following a long sprint and duel with Murphy. He's likely going to have to give way here as well, as Davies immediately is up and getting warm.
85'
V. Wanyama enters the game and replaces M. Sissoko.
B. De Cordova-Reid enters the game and replaces D. Ward.
Reid comes on to replace Ward, not Zohore. The plan for Cardiff then seems to be play balls over the top and use the pace of Reid and Murphy to try and attack, perhaps winning a set-piece or something from which they can manufacture an equaliser.
Pochettino uses the stoppage to make his second change, as Wanyama replaces Sissoko in a like-for-like swap in midfield.
84'
Well this is the last thing Cardiff needed! Ward, who has only just come on, has pulled up lame with what appears to be a calf or hamstring issue. He goes to ground and Spurs sportingly put the ball out of play so he can get treatment. This will likely force him off, just minutes after coming into the match.
80'
Into the final 10 minutes now and Spurs are dominating possession, but doing precious little with it. They're just leaving the door a little bit open for Cardiff to find an equaliser - now can the visitors make them pay?
78'
K. Harris enters the game and replaces J. Hoilett.
D. Ward enters the game and replaces C. Paterson.
A double-switch made by Warnock in advance of the last 10 minutes. Paterson has run himself into the ground today and will be replaced by Ward up top.
Hoilett has also put in a tireless showing here and will give way to Harris.
Minute
Description
76'
It will be very interesting to see what Warnock does with his substitutions in the final 15 minutes. Will he be bold and make an attacking change despite being down to 10 men? Or will he be cautious so as to ensure Spurs can't run up the score late?
72'
É. Lamela enters the game and replaces Son Heung-Min.
Pochettino does go to his bench here as Lamela, who has been on good form in front of goal, comes on to take the place on Son.
70'
Into the final 20 minutes and against all odds, it remains very much in the balance at Wembley Stadium. Spurs just can't seem to pick themselves out of first gear, even following Ralls' sending off. Pochettino has to be pondering some changes here to spark their attack.
68'
T. Alderweireld gets yellow.
Great play from Murphy who breaks quickly following a penalty appeal from Rose. He leads a counter for the visitors and does well to nudge the ball beyond Alderweireld, who blatantly blocks the path of the attacker to concede a free-kick, and also pick up a yellow card.
66'
It would be easy to write Cardiff off following that red card, but they still might just have a say in this match still! Spurs have bossed possession since Ralls' sending off, but the visitors are showing some good fight, clearly not willing to go down easy.
64'
WHAT A CHANCE! Playing with 10 men hasn't bothered Cardiff just yet! Camarasa floats a free-kick into the area from 40 yards and Morrison meets it with a bullet header that Lloris reacts superbly to get a hand to, turning it onto the post and somehow it stays out!
61'
Well Cardiff really have a mountain to climb now. Finding a way back into this match with 10 men will be a lion's task. Their focus here is going to have to switch to damage control, as Spurs are surely poised to commit bodies forward to exploit the extra space.
59'
H. Kane gets yellow.
Kane sees yellow for his reaction to the foul, running straight across to get after Ralls.
58'
J. Ralls goes off after a red card!
CARDIFF DOWN TO 10 MEN! Controversy here as Ralls sees red! Lucas poked the ball beyond him near the halfway line and looked poised to run in behind him, with Ralls cynically taking the attacker to ground making absolutely no attempt to play the ball. It certainly wasn't a goal-scoring opportunity, so was that simply just four the clear cynical nature of the foul? Seems harsh, and Warnock agrees.
56'
Kane nearly gets his goal! It's hardly the most threatening move from Spurs, but the striker has a knack for making any half-chance dangerous. A sharp turn atop the penalty area here opens up space for a shot, which he drags just wide of the far post with Etheridge rooted to his spot!
52'
Nothing comes of the resulting free-kick for Cardiff, who need to start making a bit more of these set-pieces as they offer the visitors a good route back into this match given the height they boast in the side.
51'
D. Sánchez gets yellow.
Paterson has been a nuisance with his determined play up top today, and he causes Sanchez fits here to latch onto another long ball over the top, before being taken out rather cynically by the centre-half, who sees yellow.
48'
It's been a terrific start to the second half from Spurs, who were surely given a less than friendly talking to from Pochettino at the break. They've come out with a spring in their step, showing a lot more urgency to find the second goal that would put this game to bed in all likelihood.
46'
Back underway at Wembley Stadium!
WHAT A START! Less than a minute into the second half and Spurs nearly double their lead! Rose's run down the left flank ends in a delicious cross in for Kane, who forces an excellent stop from Etheridge! Lucas arrives to meet the rebound, but his ferocious effort is cleared brilliantly off the line by Morrison!
45' +1
HALF-TIME: TOTTENHAM 1-0 CARDIFF CITY.
45'
HE'S SKIED IT! Son determined to get in on goal as he works a clever one-two with both Sissoko and Kane to get into the penalty area, but his composure lets him down at the vital moment as he blazes his effort over the bar!
43'
A first chance in a while for Spurs who finally build up to something of note in possession. Son is the architect, with some excellent play down the left before picking out the perfect pull-back for Lucas, who somehow puts his first-time effort wide of the near post!
41'
IMPORTANT GOALKEEPING! Again Paterson does really well to win a header from a long ball over the top, this from a goal kick, and play through Murphy. The attacker tries to dink it over Lloris, but the Spurs keeper sprints off his line and gets his hands up to block!
38'
Kane has been incredibly quiet up top, hardly factoring into this match. Even when Spurs were looking a threat early on, he barely played a role. You have to wonder if fatigue is playing a role in his performance. He's played a lot of matches this year and it's surely taking somewhat of a toll.
36'
Spurs have done nothing with their possession over the last 10 minutes. Over that span close to 80 per cent of their completed passes have surely come inside their own half, and when they do break forward it all goes awry for them.
34'
Surprisingly Spurs are being hemmed back yet again by a Cardiff side that is looking much more confident than their recent performances would have suggested. The intensity levels of the hosts have just dropped off a bit, which has really allowed the visitors back into this game. Pochettino can't be happy.
32'
Another strong Cardiff spell in possession, but they seem to be getting a bit over-confident as a risky pass proves costly, gifting Spurs a chance on the break. Son surges forward and lays it off for Lucas, who loses possession but into the path of Kane who can't get a shot through on goal.
28'
More Cardiff pressure as the roles have reversed here, with them keeping Spurs hemmed back. Hoilett goes on a lovely run into the penalty area via the left flank, but loses his footing at the vital moment as he just fails to get a shot off! That looked a real threat. Spurs fail to clear their lines effectively, however, and the pressure remains on.
26'
This is much better from Cardiff, who have suddenly found their legs. It's only been a few minutes but already there's frustration building in the crowd at Wembley, as they sense their side have taken their foot off the gas, allowing the visitors back into this game.
24'
MASSIVE CHANCE! How have Cardiff not equalised here?! Paterson does very well to win a header on the end of a long ball over the top, which he flicks on for Murphy, who shows electrifying pace to beat everyone to it and run through on goal. Murphy dinks it over Lloris and across goal for the incoming Hoilett, but a scrambling Alderweireld just clears off the line it half a second before he can arrive! The resulting corner is met by Bamba, but his header crashes onto the roof of the net.
22'
Cardiff desperately need a change in approach. They're not offering any threat going forward, which has allowed Spurs the luxury of committing bodies forward without needing to worry much about being exposed at the back.
20'
Etheridge called into action again, this time for a bit more of a straightforward save stemming from a Lucas effort. The Brazilian has been very lively for Spurs thus far, looking their best and brightest attacker by a fair margin.
18'
A desperate ball out from the back from Cardiff winds up working to their advantage as it wins them a throw in the attacking half. The visitors do well to keep possession stemming from it, as they enjoy their best spell in the Spurs half, though nothing of note comes from it.
16'
BIG SAVE! Brave, smart goalkeeping from Etheridge who closes down the angle and stays tall to thwart Sanchez from close range! The centre-half smartly turned inside the area to open up a lane for a shot following a clever assist from Lucas.
14'
It's one-way traffic at Wembley through the opening stages of this match. Cardiff just can't quite find their footing, as they're being forced to drop deep in defence against this relentless Spurs attack, much like a training ground routine.
10'
Decent response from Cardiff, who desperately need something positive to happen for them. Arter twists and turns on the edge of the penalty area to open up space for a shot, but he can't put it far away from Lloris who gets down to make a comfortable save.
8'
E. Dier has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur!
SPURS HAVE LIFTOFF! 1-0! A short corner is played to Trippier, who bends a cross in for Sanchez. The centre-half dives away from goal to meet the header, which takes a couple of deflections before falling kindly into the path of Dier who really couldn't miss from five yards.
7'
Much better from Spurs as Trippier plays a lovely ball over the top for Lucas, who bursts down the right channel and picks out a low cross for Kane, but Morrison does well to cut it out! Pressure stays on and they have themselves a corner, but Cardiff deal with that as well.
5'
The rain is coming down in north London which is sure to play a part in today's proceedings. It's a slick pitch which Spurs are looking to use to their advantage in possession, but Cardiff have been well organised thus far to keep the hosts to the periphery.
3'
As expected, Spurs are dominating possession from the off here, with Cardiff content allowing them to play on the ball near the halfway line. Once the hosts try and get forward, Cardiff up their pressing and quickly look to close down the gaps.
1'
AND THEY'RE OFF! Spurs in white tops and blue shorts as they get the match underway, with Cardiff in the reverse.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of this Premier League match as Tottenham welcome Cardiff City to Wembley Stadium!
Back-to-back victories have helped Spurs back into the top four of the Premier League, but it’s only a small silver lining for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who suffered another defeat in Champions League in midweek.
Spurs have largely stumbled through the last five weeks and now have been hit by the injury but just as their schedule gets tough. Three points are essential today against Cardiff as their next six matches involve tough trips to West Ham, Wolves, Palace and Arsenal, and home dates with Manchester City and Chelsea.
Three points would be nice for Cardiff, but frankly anything would do for Neil Warnock at the moment as they remain stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table having picked up just two points in seven matches, losing each of their last four.
Warnock will be hoping Spurs’ mentally and physically tolling duel with Barcelona in midweek will benefit his side in one way or another, as opposed to serving as motivation for the hosts to get back to their winning ways before the international break.
CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS:
SUBS: Ben Davies, Kyle Walker-Peters, Oliver Skipp, Paulo Gazzaniga, Fernando Llorente, Victor Wanyama, Erik Lamela.
CARDIFF CITY (4-2-3-1): Neil Etheridge; Bruno Ecuele Manga, Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba, Joe Bennett; Harry Arter, Joe Ralls; Victor Camarasa, Junior Hoilett, Josh Murphy; Callum Paterson.
TOTTENHAM (4-3-3): Hugo Lloris; Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Danny Rose; Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Harry Winks; Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane.
SUBS: Bobby Reid, Brian Murphy, Kadeem Harris, Danny Ward, Kenneth Zohore, Jazz Richards, Aron Gunnarsson.
The scoreline is a good one for Tottenham through 45 minutes, but that's all Mauricio Pochettino will be happy about from that first half as his side switched off following Eric Dier's early opener and were lucky not to concede big chances falling to Junior Hoilett and Josh Murphy - Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris doing just enough to keep the visitors out.
Cardiff have taken just two points this season in seven matches, scoring just once away from home, but that first half - scoreline aside - will be a source of encouragement for Neil Warnock who will be rallying his troops at the interval, sensing the chance to go on and take something from this match.
That's all for our live coverage, thanks for following along. Goodbye!
