We're underway in this LaLiga clash.
Villarreal are winless in their last six LaLiga games, putting pressure on the club to find a solution to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Unai Emery serves the final game of his two-match touchline ban this evening, with Imanol Idiakez controlling proceedings from the sideline once again. Villarreal saw off Red Bull Salzburg during the week to advance in the Europa League, but will need to drastically their league form to overcome Atletico tonight.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Villarreal and Atletico Madrid at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Atletico have hit a poor run of form of late to halt their charge for the LaLiga crown along with putting their Champions League hopes in peril. Diego Simeone's men were beaten in LaLiga in their last outing at home against Levante. Los Rojiblancos followed that performance with a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League. Atletico need to regain their composure amid the improving results of both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
VILLARREAL (4-3-3): Sergio Asenjo; Juan Foyth, Raul Albiol, Pau Torres, Alfonso Pedraza; Manu Trigueros, Etienne Capoue, Daniel Parejo; Samuel Chukwueze, Gerard Moreno, Moi Gomez.
VILLARREAL SUBS: Ramiro Fuenes Mori, Carlos Bacca, Dani Rabba, Geronimo Rulli, Pervis Estupinan, Jaume Costa, Alex Baena, Fernando Nino, Andre Ratiu.
ATLETICO MADRID (3-1-4-2): Jan Oblak; Felipe, Stefan Savic, Mario Hermoso; Koke; Sime Vrsaljko, Marcos Llorente, Thomas Lemar, Saul Niguez; Luis Suarez, Angel Correa.
ATLETICO MADRID SUBS: Ivo Grbic, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Lucas Torreira, Joao Felix, Renan Lodi, Hector Herrera, Moussa Dembele, Vitolo.
Although Atletico are ahead in the contest, Diego Simeone will still not feel great about his side's performance. Their goal came against the run of play and even though they have been solid at the back, Villarreal have dominated possession. The Argentine will be looking for a better display from his team in the second half in the final third.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Atletico face a huge game in the LaLiga title race next week when they host rivals Real Madrid at home on Sunday. Villarreal take on Valencia on the road in their next LaLiga outing on Friday.
