Description
79'
O NO. Wales have scored away in Moldova. If the results stay the same then Ireland drop down into third.
76'
Chaos in the Serbia box. Firstly everybody in Dublin screams for a penalty as they claim Murphy is pulled off the ball, his missed header allows Christie to glide into the box but he drills the ball over the bar.
74'
J. McClean gets yellow.
Moment of real stupidity from McClean as he crunches Ivanovic from behind and gets a card. He will sit on the sidelines for Ireland's next Qualifier.
72'
S. Mitrović enters the game and replaces F. Kostić.
C. O'Dowda enters the game and replaces S. Ward.
Kostić earns a well earned rest and he is now replaced by Stefan Mitrović.
O'Neill now takes off Ward and he introduces Callum O'Dowda.
70'
R. Brady gets yellow.
Brady curls it but it hits the wall and Serbia clear from the edge of the box. Disappointing but with 20 minutes to go Ireland have a huge advantage now.
Brady is shown a yellow card after referee Cuneyt Cakir adjudges that he has pushed over Mitrovic. Replays show he gets it very wrong and that's a first-class dive from the Serbian front man. To make matters worse, Brady is suspended for the next match.
68'
N. Maksimović goes off after a red card!
Serbia reduced to 10 men!!!! Red card shown to Nikola Maksimović as he chases after Murphy and swings wildly at the ball but he only connects with Murphy's legs. Free-kick to Ireland on the edge of the box.

Hoolahan is the first man to be brought off and O'Neill is going for it as he sends on striker Daryl Murphy.
58'
With the hour mark approaching it may be time for O'Neill to make some changes. His troops have been a little flat in the second-half and they're now making some sloppy challenges as they show their frustration.
55'
A. Kolarov has scored a goal for Serbia! Assist by F. Kostić.
Kostić grabs the assist after a beautiful lay-off that gives Kolarov the space to fire it home.
SERBIAAAA Ireland 0-1 Serbia and it is Kolarov that turns to celebrate. The defender has always been able to strike a ball with power and he shows how dangerous he is as he rifles the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box. Great team move from Serbia and Ireland are in trouble here.
52'
A. Rukavina gets yellow.
Rukavina receives the first yellow card of the game as he collides into Ireland left-back Stephen Ward.
51'
The quality in this game is not as good as first hoped but the end-to-end action is entertaining enough so far. There's a nervous feel to the game due to what is riding on it, with Wales still currently drawing with Moldova.

Slight concern as Long goes down after an aerial challenge but he is back on his feet and ready to attack once again.

The second-half is underway as Ireland kick us off once again at the Aviva Stadium.
43'
Serbia ending this first-half strongly and Kostic breaks free down the left again before crossing for Rukavina but the right-back leans back and curls the ball into the stands.
42'
Serbia work the ball to the edge of the area from a corner and Kolarov is primed to strike it but he fails to connect properly and Ireland scramble the ball clear.

A brilliant bit of play from David Meyler seems him win the ball back and prevent a corner. The Ireland fans show their appreciation and Serbia fail to capitalise on what was some good field position.
36'
Great response from Ireland as Brady feeds Hoolahan in the box but he is unable to dribble his way into the area and find space for a shot. He wins a throw-in but Seria eventually hook it clear.
33'
HUGE chance for Serbia but it goes begging. Winger Filip Kostic runs into the box before cutting the ball back to Mitrovic but the Newcastle star scuffs his effort and Ireland keeper Darren Randolph is on hand to claw the ball away.
31'
Ireland win a free-kick but Brady's cross is poor and O'Neill's men can only win a throw-in from it. They cannot take too many risks but Ireland may need to up the tempo slightly if they are to take the lead before half-time.
27'
McClean flies in again and gives another free-kick away but he is able to avoid a booking. Former Manchester City man Aleksandar Kolarov tries to be crafty and smash the ball into bottom corner but he fails to strike it cleanly and a goal kick is given.

A big sigh rings around the Aviva Stadium as Christie swings a cross in but the ball deflects off Hoolahan and Long is unable to pounce and shoot.

Still early stages in tonight's Group D encounter but Ireland have been the better of the two teams. The other big game in the group tonight is Moldova vs Wales which remains goalless.

Few hearts in mouths there as Christie collides with Aleksandar Mitrovic in the Ireland box but the penalty claims are waved away and a corner is given. The ball is eventually fired in and the home side clear.
10'
GOAL DUFFY BUT RULED OUT....Ireland win a corner and swing the ball in via the boot of Robbie Brady and Shane Duffy is at the far post to fire home. However, the offside flag is shown and the score remais 0-0.
9'
First real attack from Ireland as right-back Cyrus Christie charges down the right and wins a throw-in. With the reaction from the crowd you would think Ireland had scored. They'll need the fans tonight and it's certainly going to be intimidating for Serbia.
7'
Relatively slow start from both teams but James McClean is lucky to avoid a yellow card as he crashes into Rukavina. A card tonight will see the West Brom man pick up a suspension.
4'
Huge roar from the crowd as Shane Long spins his way past Branislav Ivanovic and wins a free-kick. Those two are going to collide on many occasions tonight.
3'
Early warning sign for Ireland as Antonio Rukavina runs towards the byline and his cutback finds Manchester United's Nemanja Matic but his shot is blocked by the home defence.
2'
Serbia tonight in an all red kit, Ireland in their traditional green shirt and white shorts. Early signs are that O'Neill has changed the formation to a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield. Walters will join Long up top, while Wes Hoolahan will spearhead the midfield.

The crowd are right behind the Republic of Ireland here as Serbia get us underway!
Meyler is the latest man to try his luck from distance but his left-footed effort is well wide and he shakes his head in frustration.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of Republic of Ireland vs Serbia from Group D of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.
Tonight's match comes from the Aviva Stadium, with Martin O'Neill's men looking to go top of the group by beating leaders Serbia. They come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Georgia.
O'Neill's side were flat on Saturday night in Tbilisi but the warm conditions did not help and they will be expected to respond this evening. As for Serbia, they were comfortable 3-0 winners over Moldova and they have not tasted defeat since they lost to Ukraine back in November in a friendly.
Ireland's draw last weekend allowed Serbia to move two points clear but the two teams drew 2-2 in their previous meeting back in September 2016. Rivals Wales are also lurking in third and they remain just two points behind Ireland ahead of their game against Moldova.
Tonight's TEAM NEWS coming up shortly...
Republic of Ireland Starting XI (4-4-1-1): Randolph, Christie, Clark, Duffy, Ward, Brady, Meyler, Hoolahan, McClean, Walters, Long
Republic of Ireland SUBS: O'Shea, Keogh, Elliot, Hayes, O'Dowda, Hourihane, Horgan, Arter, Murphy, Whelan, Westwood, Long
Serbia Starting XI (3-4-3): Stojokovic, Ivanovic, Maksimovic, Vukovic, Rukavina, Matic, Milivojevic, Kolarov, Tadic, Kostic, Mitrovic
Serbia SUBS: Nastasic, Rajkovic, Gudelj, Mitrovic, Spajic, Gacinovic, Radoja, Prijovic, Aleksandar Jovanovic II, Tosic, Obradovic, Ljajic
O'Neill has made two changes to his starting XI from that 1-1 draw with Georgia, with Wes Hoolahan and David Meyler replacing Harry Arter and Glenn Whelan. Burnley forward Jonathan Walters will skipper the side and it will be his job to try and support Southampton's Shane Long up top.
Serbia coach Slavoljub Muslin has also made changes, with four drafted in after that win over Moldova. Goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic, defenders Jagos Vukovic and Antonio Rukavina and midfielder Luka Milivojevic are recalled.
The team's are just finishing their warm-ups and kick-off is just over 15 minutes away. There's plenty of big games across Europe tonight but the result of this one could be crucial, especially with Wales also in action and looking to cut the gap.
Just minutes away from kick-off then as the two teams enter the field of play. National anthems incoming.
HALF TIME - Republic of Ireland 0-0 Serbia
Well that's much better from Ireland following that disappointing 0-0 draw against Georgia last weekend. The intensity has improve and the home advantage is definitely helping, as is the cooler temperatures. For all their improvements, they've still to test Stojkovic more than once and that will need to change in the second-half.
Second-half coverage coming up shortly...
Serbia were slow to get going but they also came into the game towards the interval and they'll be a constant threat this evening as they look to remain top of Group D.
FULL-TIME - Republic of Ireland 0-1 Serbia.
A night to forget for Ireland as they drop down into third in Group D after Wales beat Moldova. This international break could have seen them move closer to the 2018 World Cup in Russia but two poor results could have cost them any chance they had. Kolarov's goal proved to be the difference but Ireland have been unable to find their best form in their last two matches.
They will need to regroup and hope results go their way ahead of the next international break at the start of October. Thanks again for joining us, goodbye!
